So I've been applying for different jobs as the one I have is too stressful and finally got a call back for an interview yesterday. Yay!!
After thinking about it for a while I realized that if I am hired, that means new rules, easier job (hopefully), new people, new (and hopefully the same) pay and new insurance!
New insurance...
BOOM!!! Instant anxiety attack. New insurance won't kick in until I've been with the company for what... 90 days? I see my T once a week and pay my copay which is hard already. I'm not gonna be able to see her while I'm waiting for my insurance to kick in. And forget my pdoc, forget my meds. Holy crap what I am going do?

I'm sorry I'm not from the USA (we don't tend to use insurance in the UK) but I really hope things work out for you, I know it must be a really stressful time for you. Can you speak to your T to work out some sort of plan? Sorry I'm not much help xx
Thanks for this!

If you're on meds: can you talk to the pdoc and get a prescription for the amount you'd need for 90 days, and then get it filled out BEFORE you put in your termination? And maybe see if your T can work something out - maybe reduced sessions on a sliding scale?.. just to make sure it isn't zero contact?

I'm from the US and wasn't aware of the 90 day thing. Is this true? always true? If so, can you COBRA with your previous employer. Or maybe T can give you a reduced fee? But I'm still surprised about the 90-day thing--I've never heard of that. Also, the insurance exchanges are starting in a few weeks and legally have to cover mental health. Good luck!

The connection between health care and employment in America is insane. Just saying.

not from the US either; and here I pay out of pocket ... could you do that while you wait for your insurance to kick in? it would be nice for you to have a job that didn't carry all the stress with it

I recently started a new job and have to wait 90 days for my health insurance to start. Not all employers have the 90 day waiting period. My last employer only had 30 days. I am concerned I will have an accident or develop some serious illness in this 90 days so I can't go uninsured. I have purchased COBRA coverage from my last job so that I am covered for the 90 days. It is expensive, but worth it. And it covers all my old providers, including mental health.

Like others said, you can purchase COBRA coverage. Your employer will have to send it in the mail. You can also go through an insurance broker and try to purchase your own coverage. If you are rejected as high risk, you will qualify for a state high risk pool, that happened to me, and my insurance only cost $165/mo while I was waiting for my new insurance to kick in. Anyway, don't worry about it as you can purchase insurance, but do stay on top of it. You only have a certain time period to pick different types of insurance. You don't want a loss of coverage as your mental health issues will become a preexisting condition and can be excluded from your next coverage for 6 mos+. I got a new job just over a year ago and had to go through all of this.

Anyway, goo luck! A new job helped my depression and anxiety so much! I knew my former work environment was bad and had a bad affect on me, but I had no idea how big and bad it was until my new and way better job! Go get 'em Shamon!
Thanks for this!

Jdog123 I actually haven't been following all that stuff but I'm glad you brought it up. Hopefully it will still continue to go through because I know that thee is a lot of legislation surrounding ObamaCare right now. It depends on the job as far as the time you have to wait to sign up for insurance. I've had to wait 90 days at some places although the place I work now started from day 1.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! I know about Cobra I'll just have to see how much it is. It may not be financially possible though.
