We've stopped having a tree. We pile our presents round the TV.

What do you dance around, if you don't have a tree?
(No, I know you don't. I'm just playing the foreigner card here. We don't dance around the Christmas tree either, not any longer - it's mostly a kids' thing, and there are no children around when we celebrate Christmas these days.)
Thanks for this!

In my part of Yurtville we hang the tree upside down from the ceiling and the person to get hit on the head by the last ornament gets to carve the roast.

One year I did a traditional German Christmas dinner for my in-laws. I just thought I'd share something of my side of the family. I don't know why I bother there was mumbling and grumbling about everything. And my in-laws wondered why I locked myself in the bedroom and was crying.

Makes you wonder about people. My family thought i was going to "inadvertently" poison them. Dudes, it would not be a mistake!!!

my son has a couple of friends over tonight, and I just broke out a bottle of Moscato, and am now singing along to the Sound of Music, and they think I am hilarious. Of course, this is on the heels of singing along to a Lawrence Welk Christmas show from 1966.

I looooooooove the old lawrence welk shows! I remember watching them the first time around and being sooooooo jealous of the Lennon sisters, i wanted to be one soooooooo bad. Now omg. I love how welk tried to be so hip. Plus we sang a lot of those songs like the showtunes in high school choir so it brings back good memories. Im not a good singer but i love singing. It was my "sport" from 5th grade thru 12th. I got a B in music in first grade and i remember the dinner table conversation with my parents - i knew it was an unfair grade - i told them i sang in tune and loud, but they just laughed at me and said my singing loud was the problem! The nun just didnt want to give me ALL a's, thats all that was.

I love singing too. I was almost tearing up at how beautiful (although very kitschy) the Christmas set was. The lennon sisters sounded like angels singing.

My dad always called them the lemon sisters. Reading and writing these couple of posts, i keep hearing his voice in my head repeating "the lemon sisters" every time their name is mentioned! i dont think i realized at the time that he was trying to be funny

I am watching White Christmas. The commercials are quite annoying.

I'm sorry everyone I'm just in a whinging mood. Sometimes I would get money from MIL and she would be upset because I didn't buy clothes. I bought books and CDs instead. She used to buy clothes for me and the girls, but with mine I either gave them to my eldest D or the went to Salvos.

Its a freakishly long movie. They change location about a million times, and very far. From beginning to end, its like, is this even the same freakin movie? I got very confused. I really shoulda been a movie reviewer. Thumbs down!
