I believe NZ and Canada are both beautiful places (though I've never been). Just think they would be too cold for me. I like smaller cities too. I could also do well on a quiet, warm, idyllic island somewhere - not too hot not too cold.

Toronto gets the extreme cold in the winter and the extreme hot in the summer. Too much for me. I prefer the west coast personally... I'm experienced lol

Yeah, Melbourne is like that too, but in Australian standards. So as cold as 9 c during winter and up 44 c during summer.

Auckland is no colder than Melbourne.

Yeah.... Toronto can be -30c in the winter lol. 44c sounds like the summer extreme though.

Ugh.. Expecting 3-5 FEET of snow between today and tomorrow evening! It is nasty out there. Supposed to see t today , he generally doesn't close the office unless there is a travel ban in the county, which I am sure will come. However, even if t is in the office.. I doubt I am leaving the house..boo.

Had to keep the 7 year old home because she threw up this morning. Now she is acting perfectly fine and driving me nuts.

My mother NEVER kept me home cuz i threw up in the morning at that age. The first and second graders were ALWAYS throwing up in church! I remember one time, i must have been late because my mother was actually giving me a ride to school (instead of my walking the 3 blocks) - i made her stop half a block away from home so i could puke out the car door, and then she drove me in.

You're a good mom

Thanks Hankster
I think it's horrible that your mom sent you to school on that state My little monster probably would have been fine, judging by how she's acting now, but you never know...

I've been known to take my sons to school later in the day if they were fine. No need to miss the whole day if you aren't really that sick.

It was odd that the puking stopped as the kids got older. But the little ones, at least one every day! I wonder if the nuns just scared us, or it was the smell of the disinfectant in the church bathroom. I was there a few years ago and they were still using the same smelly stuff! I was gagging!! If you werent puking before you went to that bathroom, that smell made you. What soap is still being made over 50 years later??? Gross!

I believe that many elementary schools and kindergartens here have a rule that kids (and their siblings) have to be kept home for 48 hours after they have thrown up, because caliciviruses are so contagious.

Most schools in the US say 24 hrs after the quit running fever, but there is no enforcing it and people have to work.

Yeah, my friends who are parents aren't exactly happy about the rule, but on the other hand they aren't happy when other kids come to school with a virus. And the schools will send the kids home. Parents are forced to take a lot of kid sick days (I used to share an office with a guy who had to spend at least one day a week at home with sick kids, every week from January to April. Drove him nuts.) Some people work from home when their children are sick, even though that's not strictly legal... but their employers aren't going to report them.

Yeah 24hrs at our school and they have to leave school if they throw up while in school.

Hi Lola!

The seven year old's school says to keep them home 24 hours after they throw up. I would've gotten stink-eye if I and tried to drop her off later. And with all the DV stuff and child witnessing DV stuff I have going on right now I don't need anybody, least of all the school, giving my parenting choices the stink-eye.
It's actually something that worries me a lot, being a single parent now. There are less laws here in the US protecting working parents. At my last job you got 5 sick days every six months, take all 5 and you're on probation and lose your raise, take any more and you're terminated.

Aside from my being in elementary school in the Dark Ages, before germs were even invented, i wonder if private / religious schools have to follow the same rules now, or when the rules changed etc. Cuz that was like our school janitors main job, mopping up the kids pukes every morning. I know i never went home, but i usually made it to the church bathroom to hark. Not like anybody came to check on me, except a couple of times. I think i just figured, compared to the lives of the saints etc, this wasnt anything to complain about. And my mother telling me i was lucky to go to school. I am not advocating anybody raising their kids like this - it kinda sucked and it made me weird.

So, my husband was looking at a job opportunity in another country. We'd have to learn a foreign language (which I would love and it's one I've always wanted to learn), but I worry about my mental health.

Hi, I'm Nowhere, and I'm depressed and holding everyone back.
