http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mute_(The_Twilight_Zone)
Theres a twilight zone episode where a group of psych types are training one of their children to be telepathic and unemotional. Stuff happens and she gets adopted by a "normal" family who teach her to talk and emote. More stuff happens and there is a tug-of-war between the group and the adoptive mother. The adoptive mother wins. When i saw this show when i was a kid, i remember thinking, what a horrible loss to science!! What, just so this woman could replace her infertility with this girl or whatever?? T and i were talking about this last week, and we were like - wait a minute - in the twilight zone, wouldnt the psych group have won, not the family?? What exactly is the weird way here? But yeah, he disappointed all us geeks! |

I am a giant bubbling cauldron of emotion. I don't even know how it would be possible for me to be more overly emotional than I already am.
So I have absolutely no idea what the therapists are yammering on at.

But are you overtly emotional? I don't think our inner emotional life is necessarily obvious, even to somebody who is looking closely at us.

I'm a "feeler" and yes, I cry very easily. I'm learning to get it under control in certain situations like at work (abusive callers have made me cry more times that I like to admit) but with t, I've always been able to cry. I cry over sad movies, happy movies, when reading really touchingly beautiful things out loud, hell I can't even read "The Giving Tree" (Shel Silverstein) without bawling. I've cried reading posts here sometimes. So I agree that "feelers" cry more easily than "thinkers".

Hankster that was sweet. You know that is my wish for myself...but not just finding someone but getting to a place where I could actually let my guard down enough to do that with anyone...even a T. SD... I think it might be easier for me to become a Vulcan than what Hankster described! You guys are the best! |

Like the correct spelling of "oy vey" is "oh Weh", meaning literally "oh woe", or as we say in English, "Good grief"?

Perhaps using finger puppets.

Crying would help release that but I don't do that very often... Kick boxing...punching pillows...screaming into pillows....sometimes helps... Although it may not be anything like your situation |

Or finger paintings. Get in touch with your inner child.
I don't have an inner child. My father says I was born at the age of 30. His generation of 30 which means settled down and all adultlike. I've always been very adultlike.

Precisely. That would be rude. Don't do it.

No, an actual factual error, like claiming the wrong original language for a text. But it doesn't matter since it was a throwaway comment in a post about another subject. I don't want to come across as a jerk.

I think I have started to do this. I used to not cry in front of H. I have started to find myself reacting in a more authentic way. I think it is mostly a matter of feeling entitled to my feelings, to the point where his reaction would not affect my opinion or belief in myself. Even if he were to say "that is THE dumbest reason to cry", I would be able to defend my right to my true feelings. But the only reaction I have gotten thus far is surprise. And some support, but not necessarily in the form in which I had hoped for it. But that is the therapy lesson of clearly stating what I want. So many changes! ![]() |

You could design a whole line of "therapy finger puppets" and go on Shark Tank!

My preferred outcry is "Oh for crying out loud!" sometimes abbreviated FCOL online where at least four people will be confused because it's regional in the US.

My T commented that the handful of times I've cried in therapy, I seem very uncomfortable doing it.

I admit I'm jealous of people who find exercise useful.
Also, I am less sober than I ought to be. |

Ack. Not the point for me at all.
Plus the idea of paint on my fingers creeps me out. I always hated things where my hands got trapped in goo - even as a child. If they made us paint (I despised art class) then the least they could do is provide proper implements for the odious task.

I have found that strenuous exercise helps me with anger and sadness. Relaxing "exercise" like restorative yoga or strolling down a pretty street or through a park also helps, particularly with anxiety.
