I don't agonize over planned time off (like for vacations). It's just when I call in sick..... and I can't even REMEMBER the last time I called in sick when I wasn't actually sick. I just DON'T. Of course, all this agonizing I'm doing over this is going to make me sick....

I'm sure the other stuff helped. The explosion on its own would hardly have created an Evil Genius.

Yeah, my anxiety used to go through the roof at calling in sick... Whether I was sick or not. But everyone needs a mental health day now and again.
Most of my former coworkers didn't even give it a second thought - eh, just didn't feel like working yesterday, did I miss anything?

No - the one where the twin boys were separated.
In Goldmember, Nigel Powers reveals that Dr. Evil is Austin Powers' twin brother and that his real name is Douglas ("Dougie") Powers. Douglas and Austin were separated as babies following an car explosion, and that he thought that only Austin had survived. Dougie was raised by Belgians, which is what made him so complex and evil.

I'd be agonizing less if it was just a normal work day. But I'm assisting with the newbies all week, and one of the gals in my mini-group is REALLY struggling. I'm doing my best with her but I'm getting frustrated with myself because I feel like I'm not making any headway with her in 2.5 days. Maybe a couple hours off will give me new perspective.

Hi flowerbells! Near the top of any index page (ie a list of threads, as opposed to a bunch a posts to a single thread) you will see a bubble for "new thread". Push the bubble.

That's usually how I read it and use it as well.

When I was new on the Internets, back when a 14400 modem was something to dream wistfully about, people used parentheses with dots to indicate irony or sarcasm. (.That sure became standard..)

Not sure about the 60s parenting thing. I guess, as will most (all?) things the truth lies somewhere in the middle...yes, things have changed and our parents didn't have the information we have about attachment, boundaries etc etc. and, also yes, something's are just plain wrong.

Finally, I read a post as 'artwork will survive without you for a day'. Mne certainly does

I lied to my bosses yesterday.. I told them I got to work and threw up (automatically sent home when that happens). I didn't throw up, though I did feel like I was going to. Really, I just have no desire to participate in everyday life these days. I would much rather be home in bed.

I am doing much beyond going to work and bringing kids to activities/appointments. So much for antidepressants helping me to feel normal.

Healed - are they working to try to find others that could help? I have heard from clients and psychiatrists it can a while to find a combo that helps.

I own my own veterinary practice and I am the only doctor. Since horses don't like getting hauled to the hospital we go out to farms 24/7/365 for emergencies. I didn't take a vacation for EIGHT years. I thought I'd lose clients, we'd lose money, I'd let people down. Finally this past winter I was like "i need to get away or I will lose it completely"
Went on vacation for a week. Everything was just fine. Everyone managed without me. I had an incredible time. I can't believe I waited so long!!

Just do it. They will manage for one day.

I was always one to hoard leave. When I got fired from my last job, after 11 years, I had 4 weeks of paid leave in my bank, and they refused to pay me because I was "fired for cause." Of course I lost about 2 weeks worth of sick leave that was also in the bank, nobody pays you that when you leave. On top of coming in early, staying late, working weekends, and taking work home just to stay caught up; I felt like I could never ever be out.

After I got treated that way I decided my health and happiness has to be more important to me than my dedication to my work ethic, because their dedication to me isn't as strong. So now if I feel like crap, I call in. There are other people in my team so that my employer won't completely fall apart without me. (Of course, I have used up all my leave that was in the bank, but that is another story!)

Art, do it, it will benefit you more than working will!!

I am learning this lesson. My dedication to my job is not proportional to the companies dedication to me.

I am a nurse. We have a strict call off policy! Funny they think people who work in hospital should never be sick. My anxiety level goes through the roof if I am ill cause it will count as an incident. Also we have to put in vacation requests one year in advance! If you don't have seniority it is really tough to get decent vacation time!

My idea of what is a decent vacation policy, not to mention a decent sick leave policy, is probably a bit skewed compared to the rest of you. But I also dislike vacations more than does the average Swede. I ought to live somewhere where three weeks is considered an unusually long holiday!

I'd love 3 weeks vacation but I don't know how anyone can afford to go away for so long. One week tapped our vacation funds out

Thanks ya'all. I just emailed t and told her I'll get off work early today. She should be in the air now, on her way here (yay!) so if I haven't heard back from her by 2 (which is when I go to lunch and was going to come home and call in sick) I'll text her to be sure it will work. I don't want to call out sick and then have her say it still won't work. Good heavens, this is the most neurotic I've been in a year!! I am laughing at myself.
