So I had a follow up appointment with my GP today about my meds and progress. I mentioned that my counselor told me it could be my last session if I don't open up, and that she wanted me to have a full assessment with a psychiatrist. She said she didn't know why so she wanted to call my counselor to get more info.
Does this mean my T can break confidentiality and tell my Gp everything? Also, my GP said something that I was a bit confused by. "Do you think you are unwell or do you think we are just making a fuss over you for nothing?"... Odd? Xx |

The GP's comment might have been more sensitively phrased (it's hard to tell, lacking context) but it's a legitimate question--are you and your providers on the same page about the severity (or not) of your issues?

I did give her verbal permission to talk to her. I just don't have a clue what they will say about me, and now I'm twice as nervous about my next session with T on Tuesday!
She said it in a kind way, but I wasn't sure how to answer. Ofcourse I think something is wrong, otherwise I wouldn't agree to take the meds, but now I'm doubting whether they actually think something is wrong. I'm so paranoid that people just think I'm, for some insane reason, faking it! I was accused of it when I saw a Gp as a teenager. It wasn't until I had a baby that it was picked up on that I was unwell x |

Different countries often have different rules. OP is in the UK - not the US.

I would be surprised if your T broke confidentiality in the circumstances you describe. I expect the most they would say would be around the sessions open to you and whether your T thought this kind of therapy is right for you just now. Short/fixed term work isn't for everyone, nor is CBT, psychodynamic etc etc and there's an arguement to be said that no therapy is better than bad/wrong therapy.
Do you have a sense of what you need just now? |

Yes, OP, you might want to ask one of your providers about confidentiality, or look it up if you can. I don't think anyone thinks you're "faking" it.

It doesn't sound like your T could break confidentiality. She might just tell your GP very general stuff. And I understand the feeling of thinking other people think you're faking it. I don't think anyone actually thinks you're faking it though. But you're not alone in feeling like that.

In the U.S. your T would need written consent from you to speak about you with your GP. I'm not sure about the UK.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to wait and see what is said on Tuesday. Hopefully I will find the confidence to actually talk to her! Xx
