Cricket is full of weird words - Googly, Doosra, Wrong 'un, Nurdle, Yorker, Chinaman and so on. There comes a point where you realise you're never going to understand everything the commentator says!
Thanks for this!

Yayy! Yes, test cricket is the absolute best.

Btw, I don't know if you remember / watched the old BBC series, Bodyline? I was rather obsessed with it (and thought Don Bradman was the hottest thing since sliced bread)!
I have seen bodyline! Not the first time round but it was on BBC iPlayer classics at one point I think. I think Windies and S Africa still get fairly decent crowds, but in Asia all the money is in limited overs so there's the draw. I do hope the novelty wears off though, because test cricket is far better!

Thanks to reading either PD James or Elizabeth George, I forget which, I actually know what the Ashes is...rotting my brain by reading mysteries finally pays off!

Ellahmae, imagine a bunch of men dressed in white flannels, and saying stuff like "I say, good shot!", and holding a baseball bat pointed down instead of up, and only two bases...and that is cricket.
Thanks for this!

Baseball has to give way here - the only truly weird terms I can think of are Texas Leaguer and frozen rope. Maybe "tater." There's another, a name for a bunt with a runner at third, but it would require a trigger warning.

Can you think of any others, Ellahmae?

Well, soda bottles emptied and recycled...cans recycled. The landlord went to pick up her grandson and the other resident was in her room taking a nap. Lol, so I got it done early. So productive. Still waiting to hear back from my teacher as to whether or not I could call what I want to call a summative assessment a summative assessment. She never logged on yesterday and has yet to log on today. She must be busy with her personal life. She is human after all.

Can of Corn - routine fly (that in itself might be one lol)

Bullpen - (might be strange to some) where pitchers warm up

Hot Stove - time of year before spring training that the teams all do their trades and signing of free agents

Barn Burner - everyone hitting all the time

Ribbie - Run Batted In (RBI)

Eephus - low lob pitch

Retire the Side - end of the first half of the inning

Around the Horn - throwing from each base in order

Bandbox - hitters park

That's all I can think of that might be 'different'. I'm watching now but "my" announcers have their own weird stuff but it isn't known by anyone but them and those that consistently watch/listen to them.

I spent almost an hour and a half at a party today. I try to avoid these things, but two family members were celebrating a certain jubilee (sorry for being vague, but I'd rather not be tracked down) and my grandmother (and the rest of the family) really likes it when I attend, so I try to go for an hour or two now and again. Even more, I spent over an hour of said hour and a half sitting in the middle of the room! Meaning people were actually behind me, which freaks me out (go PTSD!). I was only touched three times (besides handshakes) and didn't visibly freak out when I was. Go me!

Came home on sick leave, have this awful pain I'm considering using the heating pad on. I'm so hot already I might have a heat stroke in my bed.

Thanks for the new sports terms couch, some of which are real head-scratchers.

Well done! That's a really admirable achievement. I struggle at social events and tend to drink a lot to combat anxiety. So I just wake up feeling embarrassed the next day instead.

An aunt called me on the phone and I talked to her for like half an hour. Go us, being social today! I don't know why hearing all her family news freaks me out but it kinda does. I have pretty much nothing to say for myself.

Aussie Rules has its origins in gaelic football.

A blooper?

And isn't there a funny term - something wild? - when the catcher is super scrambling for the ball?

Where is Yogi Bera when you need him?!

See I didn't even know that. I don't watch the tv news much and usually these articles are not in the sports segment.

Wtf! And women had to fight to get the marathon?!

Eta - I told my t you were hilarious, but I couldn't think of a specific example. This might do it. Definitely a joke he would steal.

I do remember one user said she nearly spat her coffee on the screen because I said my MIL was coming and I would rather chew razor blades and drink draino.
