Thanks. I'm so exhausted I just want to lie down and sleep. I don't want to go on, everything just feels hopeless. I knopw this is transitory and in fact there is nothing the matter with my life - it's all in my head, whatever my best friend says. I can't afford to start thinking that anything can change, that way lies bitterness and madness.

Sorry. Babbling. I'll shut up now.

A friend of mine who lives in Glastonbury was posting to Facebook about the traffic jams in connection with the Glastonbury festival, so I got curious and checked the BBC to see how bad it was. I found a photo of some people who'd been standing bumper-to-bumper in a queue for many hours, who'd started a game of cricket in the other half of the road... talk about making the best out of a bad situation

Zoiks it's already Wednesday, it will be Saturday before I know it because I have training all day through Friday, and I really don't feel the need to see t this week. The only thing I was going to talk about was changing to 45 minute sessions for the insurance situation (which should be a very short conversation), and then I was gonna do a sand tray. Wonder if it's too soon to take a break again... maybe the one in April wasn't long enough...

I'm glad to see you feeling a little better, granite....

oh yeah. I just remembered - last night I was feeling a teensy bit insecure about telling t I want to go to 45 minute sessions for insurance reasons - that's why the taking a break talk lol. I figured me out pretty quick this time eh? Powerful stuff, this knowing my nature.

Anyway. The insecurity is because I think she might jump in and assume I want to pay her less. That's not the case of course, I have no intention of paying her less, I just want the insurance to help me pay for it. Well, even if she did make that kind of assumption, I think by this time in my journey, I would handle it a whole lot better than when I hung up on her during a phone session a few years ago.

Morning, couch.

I am up and rested. I slept a long time. Guess I needed it. Oh well, it might be a good thing.

Tried to log into my masters class to do some discussion posts, but the classroom system is currently down. Probably will be for a while as IT at the school probably isn't in yet seeing that it is only 7:30am AZ time. Oh well, I have all day.

My room is starting to look like a disaster again. I need to put away my cooking stuff from yesterday and sort through some mail and hang up laundry, so I can put my dirty clothes pile into the laundry basket. I also need to empty my room trash cans. I should probably do all of this today, so it does not get out of hand again.

I also need to run to the store today to get some hygiene items. So much to do. Lol. Good thing it is summer and I have the day off from CVS.

Are you thinking of Test cricket?

Because those rarely ever take place now (or at least, draw no crowds).

First there came the one-day 50-overs stuff (to draw advertisers and replace test cricket) and now, to my utter horror, the most popular form is the gawdawful Twenty20.

I really feel like a grumpy old curmudgeon shaking my fist at all these changes (after having grown up watching test matches over the better part of a week in a rather leisurely fashion -- dudes couldn't run and could hardly be bothered to make much of an effort; style mattered so much more). Okay, will stop venting and pining for the good old days just about now!
Thanks for this!

I am thinking of test cricket. But mostly I was just teasing any members of the former empire around.

I have never really understood the rules of cricket. Which for a baseball fan is saying something.

Meanwhile the fourth place team in your division has lost eight in a row and has a hard road trip coming up - could this be the start of a Cinderella, rags-to-riches, worst-to-first story?
Thanks for this!

Room is better. Cooking stuff put away, mail sorted, trash out (though it is pretty full again after sorting mail), clothes hung.

Just need to empty my half full soda bottles and dump them into recycling. Will do that tonight after everyone is asleep. Also need to dump my empty soda cans into recycling. Also tonight.

I don't understand the rules of cricket, rugby, gaelic football, baseball, softball, American football, kabbadi, hurling, or Aussie rules football. But I enjoy Wodehouse's cricket stories (as well as his golf stories).

I do understand floorball, which almost no people in the world know anything about. So there is that.
Thanks for this!

art, do you ever read notalwaysright.com? Many of the stories there are pretty funny. (Sometimes it seems to be more about making fun of people who don't understand tech jargon, or who have strong accents or whatnot, but that's to be expected at a website where anybody can submit stories.)

The ashes tournament sells out every match every time. One of the biggest sporting events on the calendar over here. I love cricket, especially test cricket, it's my favourite sport

Watching baseball with my H is difficult. He doesn't understand anything. Now we should steal first, be out if you are hit after the bat hits the ball because well that makes sense, there are so many more. At least it gives me a chuckle I guess. It's better than my sister asking about the fourth base-man. You'd think she was talking about the catcher... nope, the 3rd baseman.

I recently bought an audio version The Cricket in Times Square. I loved it when I was too young to have any idea of what Times Square (or, indeed, New York) was. I hope I'll still like it. It's all part of my "walking more" campaign - I listen to audiobooks while I walk to stop me from feeling too awful. Right now, I listen to Sense and Sensibility.

Sports is easy, you just learn a bunch of terms. Googly, scrum half, steal first (thanks, Ellahmae!), mashie-niblick, quarterback.

...and then you try using them and end up being all .
Thanks for this!

Can I just say that the fact that it's the Ashes explains everything? It defies any and all categorization -- calling it test cricket would somehow be making it mundane?

And, for what it's worth, I always rooted for England (somehow hating Australia's prowess was the thing to do!).

Yayy! Yes, test cricket is the absolute best.

Btw, I don't know if you remember / watched the old BBC series, Bodyline? I was rather obsessed with it (and thought Don Bradman was the hottest thing since sliced bread)!
