I'm sorry it's taking so long, BB. I can't even imagine how difficult that must be. Hugs.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry your papers are taking so long - seems crazy that it should take so much time. I really don't understand the part about the protective order, seems like there should be some way to do go about it so that you still feel safe. That must be so hard for you.

I know it isn't fun but a lawsuit really does not move in a fashion of what non-lawyers think of as quickly. Around a year or more is not unusual in my experience with civil suits. It is usually not just because individual lawyers are slow -but because of the whole arc of the process and how it is set up. It is usually quicker than the process of therapy if that is any comfort.
The divorce orders around here are not usually as long - but months, again, is not unusual.

Thanks Art. I've actually considered closing the practice I've spent 10 years building over it. I really gave these people so much of myself both professionally and emotionally. They ignored my medical advice repeatedly and would not seek a second opinion when I advised it. Then somehow everything is my fault. They are slandering me. I have trouble sleeping, its shattered my confidence in myself as a veterinarian. I know it happens especially in horse practice. Hell my old boss who was an excellent vet, was sued at least a dozen times. ( won most of them. Settled in two I think).
But I never thought it would happen to me.
Last night I sat in the barn and sobbed incoherently for an hour.
The uncertainty, the lack of control, the feeling of being betrayed, it's all overwhelming.

I am going to have to get some dog sedatives for the pup. He is a complete shaking drooling wreck. I might give him some benedryl just to see if it will knock him out.

Finally got the papers signed a couple weeks ago, now I'm waiting on the judge. I figure two months minimum. :/

Have you tried a calming coat? I've read and heard good things about them. They help dogs who are afraid of thunderstorms.

Not on him - but I just found out tonight that he is a wreck. My current other dogs pay no attention to noises. We tried a thundershirt on one of our dogs years ago - but it did nothing for her.

I'm not going to bed tonight - our flight home leaves before six and I figure it will take several hours to get junior cat into his carrier. Maybe I'll watch "Murder on the Orient Express."

Usually, when the fireworks start this time of year, I would be expecting my dog ,Bella, to do her normal thing. Freak out! Shake! Hide in the very back of my closet. This year, I have spoken to her very calmly and reassuring that it's ok. I've also looked inward and calmed myself in response to her. Hope that makes sense.

The book that I'm reading talks about "mirror neurons" in our brains. I was trying to calm myself so I could speak calmness to her. Again. Hope that makes sense.

She sat out with us on the back patio tonight, in the midst of the fireworks, I calmed myself and spoke reassurance to her. No shaking!! She say right beside me. They were 2 streets over, but still in our space.

Interesting.

Fireworks are a terrible thing. I see nothing positive about them at all. It is one of the reasons I hate new years eve.

BBT was funny at the beginning but after a few season I didn't like it much. What they did to Amy was pretty much unforgivable, even apart from the fact that I found it very sad indeed that they considered it necessary to provide Sheldon with a girlfriend.

Fireworks are pretty to me at a distance. They are not safe up close. Too loud.

Mostly I like how trains sound. I live near a rail line, it's oddly soothing...

I suppose this is what you'll spend the night at:

I make sure to be somewhere where I can't see them. It is impossible not to hear them, though.

((( soft hug )))

There are things like that, that make me feel that way. I hope they are gone quickly from your space! Music and earphones is always a go to for me. Maybe that would help.

Well, there are no fireworks around me at this time of year. Even if there were a reason to burn them off - which there isn't - there would be no point as they don't show up. It just doesn't get that dark.
(Well, it does down here in Germany, but they don't have any fireworks type holiday now, as far as I am aware.)

Oh wow! It doesn't get dark where you are?? I HATE nighttime - dark. I need to move to where you live!! That could be counterproductive though, because I would never sleep. Couch 117: Come On In and Set-tee A While

I hear you and empathise deeply. Physical "intimacy" (a misnomer as far as I am concerned) does that. Please stay safe.
