Making headway on my list for today: made blueberry pancakes for breakfast, took books back to the library, bought a hook for the bathroom to replace a broken one, bought a box spring for my son because his old one broke, now I'm starting laundry. And while the laundry is doing its thing, I'm going to start my "how to draw" online course.

Wow, wish I'd be that productive in one day.

I have an activity class I go to, with a fair few years of experience. I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but most of the people there have a "were all learning together" mentality.

There's a newer guy there who insists on picking apart my suggestions to him (more experienced people teach newer folks) and then he critiques my form as well. The tone is not very collegial, more sexist mansplaining. It pisses me off, which makes me teary and shut down. I left class feeling like I suck at life today. Sigh.

ok I finished the first lecture in the how to draw self-paced course I am doing. I have already drawn something! It started with drawing this like interlocking triangles thingy called the "Sierpinski Triangle" and then with some erasing, coloring in/shading, etc turned it into a hunk of cheese.

My triangle thingy is the first link, my eventual hunk of cheese is the 2nd link.

My brain definitely does NOT think this way naturally. I felt it stretching some trying to comprehend how triangles turned into a sort of 3 dimensional looking hunk of cheese. The instructor's looked much better than mine of course, but hey not bad for a first effort. I am encouraged to continue to lecture 2 while my laundry still goes (they are around 30 minutes each).

The instructor suggests drawing an hour a day, so I'm going to try to draw the hunk of cheese again starting with the triangles thingy and this time see if i can get my lines a little straighter, and then make it in color if I can find my colored pencils. It is a good thing to stretch my mind with this kinda thing rather than to ruminate over other stuff!!
Thanks for this!

I am cleaning. I am breathing heavily and have assorted bleachy scents embedded in my mucus membranes. I am not nearly done. I am not feeling so great about getting up offa my duff and accomplishing something. In fact, I am feeling like a failure at life.

it's through The Great Courses (thegreatcourses.com) I bought the book/CD's, but the price includes streaming them online once you buy them. I kept getting their sale catalog in the mail with greatly discounted prices so I decided to just do it and buy one of them lol in January when I was working all the overtime. I wouldn't pay the full price of like $385, but I figured I didn't mind $54.95. There are 36 lectures of around 30 minutes each. I need visual, so it helps me watching the instructor draw what I'm supposed to draw. I've only done the first lecture so far so the jury's still out on whether I will actually learn anything lasting from it, but it's fun already and cost less than a therapy session, so there ya go.

art - if you ever go for painting, look for that old PBS show with Bob Ross. He walks you through the creation of a painting. I have no artistic skill whatsoever, but I find him fascinating to watch.

You could get a sketchbook and practice when it's slow at work.

I believe the Bob Ross show is available on YouTube.

I'm feeling pretty cool and like I have it all together. My cats don't puke. They do think that they both fit on my lap, and they both think I should share my ice cream. But they do not puke. And especially not in my bed.

Now you know what will happen when I go to bed tonight...

Nonetheless, I shall enjoy my feelings of superiority while they last.

They are the mysterious beings who take your car keys from where you are sure you left them and hide them somewhere else

In my house it's usually a hairbrush gnome. I've considered putting chains (like the ink pens in government offices and banks have) to keep them in the vicinity of the bathroom. If the keys are missing my teenagers are probably at fault.

I had that issue with my hairbrush, but turned out that my daughter was "borrowing" it. She now has a brush like mine.
