Another vote for the shorter dress (altho I think both are beautiful).

I am terrified about the results of the election tonight.

Exit polls have predicted a hung parliament?! I don't know what to make of that.

What happens if there's a hung parliament?

Then... I guess we end up with some kind of dodgy coalition, like we had before with the tories and the lib dems? That turned out great!

Thing is, if the exit poll shows a hung parliament, then I guess what it really means is... it could go either way! Which is... nerve-wracking, but leaves a little bit of room for hope.

Hope is dangerous... I shouldn't have hope.

My 70 lb puppy just learned how to leap into the recliner. He used to try to step into it which gave me some time to get prepared. The leap is less predictable.

Sometimes my cat jumps up on my leg with claws out for grip. I wish he would just jump on the bed or couch and then walk onto me. But I don't speak cat (yet)

The cat claws grip thing is unpleasant in the summer.

The cat claws grip thing is unpleasant all the time. My cats should feel very lucky that I don't agree with the practice of declawing.

In other news, it's days like these where I wish I had a pdoc. A PRN would be really nice right now. I'm trying everything but I can't calm down.

No party has a majority so it is not clear who will govern till a coalition is formed or another election held.

On the cool side, I think this is the monarch's one remaining serious constitutional power - she can invite a party leader to form a minority government even if the party did not get a majority, or even the most seats.

At least according to a Jeffrey Archer novel I read.

Ooh, and it's a great opportunity for tasteless jokes. Which I will spare you.

I dunno if I agree with that being cool... (though it is interesting). I don't see why she should have any right to make such decisions.

Then what should the role of the monarchy be? Just a ceremonial role? I'm not asking to be snarky, but because I'm genuinely interested

It's cool if you're interested in the history, rise, decline, and fall of constitutions, like me.

Because, basically, someone has to have that power in a parliamentary system or there is the risk of chaos. And I don't know who else could do it under your current set-up.
Thanks for this!

That was interesting, thanks. My Covfefe hurts a little, though.

I don't believe the monarchy should have any role at all. I don't believe they should exist.

Yes, it is interesting.

A randomly-chosen member of the public would be just as good a choice to make that decision, in my opinion...

I'm just trying to rival your therapist as a source of interesting, not-very-useful and possibly wrong non-therapeutic information.

I should probably go read about the mating habits of beavers.

I use all of these words on a daily basis except gramercy and skoal (which around here - everyone would think meant chewing tobacco). I am immediately incorporating gramercy into use. I thought students were just messing with me when they make fun of my vocabulary.

My ex MIL counts the queen as a friend simply because my ex FIL has military decoration that Prince Philip is a patron of so they get to go to Buck Palace every 2 years and they get a generic auto penned Christmas card every year. Apparently I upset the cart by pointing this out. Is anyone really that stupid?

I use that phrase too. As does Chief O'hara on the real batman (adam west) show
I did not realize that most people did not use those phrases - that they were considered odd or old fashioned.
After they graduate, students come back and show me their impressions of me giving a lecture (or get goaded into by their friend at lunch. A surprisingly large number of them want to have lunch with me after they graduate.) - and it always includes some confession by them about not having heard some phrase before they heard me use it.
I always thought they were just teasing me about the latter part - I know they are teasing at the doing it.
