This artist did a whole series of these... I find them immensely comforting for some reason:

When you get to the more fun ones - we can compare notes - I have used my faculty status as well - I almost have enough hours to get another graduate degree. It is fun to see who is taking the class in earnest. Some are very scary in the classes I have taken.

I was a few hundred feet behind the absolute insanity that happened yesterday. I was taking a video, all pumped up by the chants of "Who's streets? Our streets!" (i love a good chant), when I saw something fly in the air (i thought it was a tear gas can for a second),a nd everyone was screaming and running.

Then to find out it was a car who mowed people down. Utter horror. I counted 11 people I personally saw that was injured, 3 whom were taken off in stretchers, seemingly unconscious. I believe 1 I saw was the woman who died. I spent most of the day in shock, shaking and exhausted.

I drank too much, and sobbed hysterically last night for hours. I had stopped to talk to a co-worker a minute or two before, and all we can think about is if we hadn't seen each other, that could have been us.

It is one thing to read or see something like this through the news, but to be there...I am completely traumatized. Someone was effing murdered yesterday because of the hatred that this presidency allows to flourish. Its absolutely disgusting.

Earlier in the afternoon, I was in a parking lot with a bunch of other protesters, whom had just run off a group of Nazi's. One car filled with women was exiting the parking lot when they just hit someone. 100% on purpose. Luckily the man was okay, as they were going pretty slow. And someone got their license plate.

Domestic terrorism at its finest.

My T has been wonderful. She called to check up on me today on her own because she knew how I upset I am.

The issue isn't the statue. The controversy over removing the statue was just a convient excuse for Richard Kessler to gather his fellow kkk'ers and cause panic and harm. He went to UVA, which is his connection to Charlottesville.

At least he got punched in the face today, and wasn't allowed to have his stupid press conference because the crowd of protestor's were so loud.

I lived in Memphis when Martin Luther King got shot - I was little. I remember the national guard on the streets with giant guns.
I now live in another city in which violence broke out after injustice in the last few years and shooting was taking place near me - just a few houses away from my house a couple of times. It is scary. A lot of law schools have programs to help the poor etc who get arrested or injured in outbreaks of violence with police or other crazy situations.

I am not much for chanting or protesting in the streets. I have good friends who are - any time there is a good chanting/opportunity to protest real and imagined social justicy sorts of thing - they are right there.

I protest in my own way. Less publicly. No chanting. Mob mentality is not all that fun for me on either side - even on the side I agree with.

No chanting.

I do like that I have gotten others to use good lord. It is a great phrase.

Oh wow. Charlottesville didn't make it into our news. Had to read up on it. This is awful.

Velcro. I'm glad you're ok and really really sorry you had to witness this.

Sure it is okay. Good lord. Curse the darkness etc if someone needs to do so.

I, for one, am not upset or bothered at all. I am just having a different view. And some fun. I don't take myself or these sorts of discussion all that seriously.

Thank you. I didn't say upset. I said bothered, which is what it looked like to me--bothering to comment. I am someone who bothers a lot. And I worry a lot. Just how I am wired. It's not a comfortable way to live, but sometimes it moves me to do things that I'm glad I did. Nothing here on pc, but in real life.

Youre right, it is terrorism. That sounds just like Boston. Thats not free speech, thats not right of assembly. Thats Oklahoma. Why just 2nd degree? I hope they change it to first degree murder charges with special circumstances.

I've decided to play hooky from work tomorrow -- "sick day".

I can't decide if I should email my boss tonight or tomorrow morning.

Arguments for both sides:
- Tonight: I can then wake up at a leisurely time which would be six kinds of awesome. On the other hand, the credibility of the 'sickness', such as it is may be called into question.

- Tomorrow: I will come across as a dedicated employee who made the decision at the very last possible minute in an effort to absolutely make it to work. But yeah, I would lose precious sleep in waking up and sending that email in time.

My boss is rather super chilled out but if he senses that I'm pulling a fast one, he will subtly let me know. There won't be any real consequences but....

Problems, problems.

OR: you could stay up late, till like 3, 4 am, then send the email. And then go to sleep, and sleep late.

Once again, I have solved all your problems. No need to thank me.
