To the couchies in need of hugs:

Love shrimp/shellfish/fish/seafood of all varieties! Best thing I did for my mental health (unless that was just the prozac )

1. Where do you get your shrimp? Grocery store? Seafood specialty store? Mail order? Catch it yourself?

-No chance of getting it from the ocean here in the desert. Used to make a point of going to the seafood/food distributor until my husband pointed out that's the same place the grocery stores buy it! Now I get it at the grocery.

1. What kind of shrimp do you buy?Frozen or fresh? Cooked or raw? Wild caught or farmed?

-Frozen cooked. More convenient, don't like removing the veins. Is easier to overcook, though. Frankly, I think all the "fresh" shrimp here is just defrosted. I can do that myself, thank you very much. Don't care if it's wild or farmed. Probably should (for environmental reasons?) but don't.

1. Do you remove the sand vein out? Both sides? Just the back?

-If I can see it, it goes.

1. Any tips on buying or prepping shrimp?

-Cook but try not to overcook. Even if you overcook, put it in your face. Eat. Enjoy. Ceviche for the win!

...As for that odor. Yeah. I used to believe people when they said that fresh seafood shouldn't have an odor. Then someone pointed out that it probably smells fishy because, well, it's fish. I just add lemon and put it in my face. Nothing bad has happened yet.

How are you today, QM?

I'm pretty good today just arrived back at my office after lunch with a coworker and two folks from one of our suppliers I get nervous eating with others and rather eat alone.

Accepted my lunch being paid for (I dislike that because I'm not supposed to accept favours from suppliers but it's polite and common with working with older generation Chinese folks as part of building rapport), got the small group drinks.

I haven't got as far as interviews. Job hunting is outside my comfort zone. I'm so anxious I can't even get started.

Self conscious because one of them exclaimed that I shouldn't have poured my saucer of chilli padi into my wheat noodles because it made it "too salty" and that's "bad for health".

It was just an offhand comment I know. I just internally reacted to their voice tone because I'm sensitive to disapproving tones...doesn't necessarily mean they were disgusted with me

Yes, some people like to give unsolicited advice...
You don't have to listen to them, to explain yourself or anything.

I know it's hard, because, well, you know, my parents...

I made some stupid joke about it. Said I'm young still. They meant well -- it's a very Chinese thing...older folks giving "advice" "for your own good"...I just don't handle disapproving tones well.

*hugs* yeah, honestly I think they like to hear themselves talk. Sometimes I appreciate their advice, but a lot of the time, they don't have a clue about the pressures our generation are facing and go on about how young people are so lazy/spoilt/entitled/whatever.

I can't remember whether you said, but have you tried a job agency? I know over here they are pretty useless but they might give you some encouragement.

We carved pumpkins today. It was fun. These seasonal rituals seem to help hold things together. The surprised one is mine.
