I had no idea egg cups were less common in the US. That's quite surprising. I discovered these today - I might have to get me some

Really. AY, were you proposing to use egg cups without egg spoons? Tres gauche.

As for being gauche, uhh....now that we know each other so well, I should perhaps tell you that my people eat with the right hand and well......wash you-know-what.....with their left? And, I do believe in the value of keeping close -- very close, really -- to my cultural heritage in such matters.

Are we taking into account the una-factor or leaving it out?

The Couch = the Una factor.

I was wondering what to talk about in my session today (egg cups I bet would get Blondie going far more than Louis Macneice's poetry, which was my other option).

The kitten came back. Yay! About 9:30 last night i thought i would check theback door. I didnt have my glasses on and thought i could see a shadow on the steps, i didnt turn any internal lights on, and i nearly shut the door . Wth. Anyway i invited the shadow in and was Little Chin. He has lost his collar but it was one of those quick release ones so they dont get caught in trees.

When my mum was feeling kind she would make me softboiled eggs it was usually after one of my operations. A rare fond childhood memory or fairytale as one pdoc would say

Navajo rabbit! The immediate crisis is over, so why do I still feel like a cat on a hot tin roof?

Yay! Could you maybe get her a collar with your contact info on it, in case she runs away again? Or get her microchipped?

Where I live, people can barely eat with utensils. They would probably use egg cups to spit in, or steal them in order to sell for something to snort/shoot/inhale. Also, the last thing I need besides beer cans and dime bags tossed on my lawn are broken egg cups.

I just learned something! I had NO IDEA that we Americans didn't use egg cups at least bi-weekly! I read the article and I suppose a shot glass would work, but I think the only one of those I have has measurements on it--really a jigger more than a shot glass. I guess it's telling that I not only have egg cups, but 2 kinds! Both are chicks, one in glass and one pottery. Both look like the chick holding the egg on its back between fluffed up wings.

AY, watch out: next you'll want not only the spoon (a demi-tasse spoon will work, too: of course, probably no one has those, either!), but also the special little scissors that cut the top off perfectly, and then a coddler for the ultimate in Sunday AM brunch drippy egg concoctions! (And, yes, I have both )

I don't think I've ever even seen an egg cup in real life. To me they're something that exists in storybooks and magazines that show off lives way fancier than mine.

Are you my mother?

Scissors, check.
Demi-tasse spoon, check.
Coddler, check.

Let's test this further:

Do you have...
Saucier spoons?
Salt spoons?
Jam spoons?
Caviar spoons?

My mother firmly believes in having the proper utensil for everything. Otherwise, civilization is dead.

What is a coddler?

What happens if someone accidentally uses a salt spoon to spoon jam?

Although my grandmothers both had egg cups, I have never seen anyone in real life use one. If I am eating a boiled egg that is not hard - I mix it in with grits.

I only used to live where your mother does (I think!) But yes to the rest--though I'm not sure about the saucier. And the caviar spoons aren't for caviar, but I fell in love with all these mother of pearl implements when I was in Thailand, so I use them with the salt cellars--yes, I have those, too! But to be fair, I only drag them out when I host a holiday dinner.

True story: years ago I had 7 good friends over for Thanksgiving. I had just gotten a proper dining table big enough to set, so used my good china and crystal goblets, wine and water, and the flatware. My mother's heavy linen cloth and napkins--all very posh. And the crystal salt cellars. I had also just gotten my little kitten, who was @ 5 months old then. I was in the kitchen doing something and the friends in the living room started quietly laughing. I come out to see what the joke was: kitten was daintily winding her way around the place settings and calmly digging the salt out of the cellars into little piles. She was too cute for anyone to stop her! Thankfully, my friends are pet lovers!
