I much prefer to spend time with others who share my positive interests rather than the physical issues.

All the best. I hope you find solutions for your back problem.
Thank you very much. I am trying to pursue my interests but it's hard.

My reasoning isn't solid though- it is bc Gabapentin made my dog wh took it for spondylosis in his back feel weak at a high enough dose to control the pain. Can't they give you something much stronger, and at least give you a breather from the chronic pain?
I'm not crazy about Gabapentin but it seems to help though it makes me wobbly the next day. I'm only on 300 mg. at night. I went to a new pain Dr. who wanted to give me some kind of opiod patch but I asked for Nucynta which my other pain Dr. had suggested. That's an opiod too. However, it costs $700 for a month. That's what he wrote the Rx for. No generic. I chose not to get it as there are other meds and that one is new anyway so I could btry something else.

I saw the geriatric psychiatrist Friday so I started Cymbalta ( duloxetine) yesterday. It's an antidepressant and also pain medicine for nerve pain. I'm nauseous and shaky from that plus gabapentin ( she says stay on that too). This is the first pdoc I've liked! She's nice and compassionate. I can call the office any time though I might get her nurse. I don't think I can drive taking this, at least now. Yesterday I felt really dizzy/weak so I have to see if I can tolerate it. I hate meds but I hate being in pain!

The p-doc actually called back and said don't take tomorrow and call office. I can try something else in a tablet so I can cut in half. But it's too bad because Cymbalta is also for nerve pain.

I assume that your pdoc has talked to you about this, and obviously you and your doc know best. But for what it’s worth, psych meds can have start-up effects for the first week or two that may go away. When I started on Lexapro, I felt shaky, nauseated, wired, and had trouble sleeping. It lasted less than two weeks, and after that I only felt positive results. I was glad that I stuck it out. Wishing you luck in finding something that will help.
Thanks for this!

I have a friend who takes Cymbalta, and he swears by in for pain. That sounds promising. I am glad you have the option of that hard-hitting med, and that they do take you very seriously . I am sorry you asked for one you didn't end up affording, but I still think you should consider a strong option to give yourself a pain break for several weeks, so you can experience a mood lift too.

Maybe but I can't stand feeling this way. I'll ask when I call tomorrow.

I'm scared of the meds so that doesn't help. The strong option could be Tramadol but can't take with gabapentin, and I'm afraid of a patch. I forgot what the drug was. I just don't think I tolerate anything not even Tylenol.

Are you on the smallest dose of Cymbalta? If so, maybe could try that. (I was on it at one point but forget how to He dosing worked). Or I wonder if it could be worth trying it without the gabapenriin? Maybe it’s a he combo that’s the issue. I recall feeling similar to how I feel when I take Tylenol on Cymbalta, though I was on it for anxiety/depression, not pain.
Thanks for this!

Have you looked into CBD oil? Supposedly good for chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and more. My 70-year old mother started taking CBD oil a few weeks ago for chronic pain and saw rapid improvement from it. It's not cheap but I'm going to try it myself.
Thanks for this!

Yes, smallest dose 20 mg. I just got back on Gabapentin so not wanting to go off again though 300 mg isn't enough. I think it's combo too. Plus Tylenol. I see rheumatologist today. I'll see what he thinks.

I'm on warfarin. I don't think they'd allow it. I asked pain Dr. and he didn't want to say anything except it's over the counter.

It's a capsule so I can't have less.

Just read online that CBD oil and warfarin is not a good combination. Warfarin unfortunately reacts with a lot of things.
