Especially when you dont know whats the issue you need help with?
and when words are not enough? when you dont know how to express it and even doubt anyone can help you? do you act out? its a bit shameful, but i've found out that this is the only way im listened to…. and get some of the help i need… other ways? |

Generally, I don't ask. When I do ask, I don't usually receive help. There may be some good people willing to help you but finding them is like a needle in a haystack. I hope you get lucky.

I’m not great at asking for help which is probably a big reason that I’m in therapy. I’m great at helping others, but not so much for myself. I’ve probably acted out at least a little bit in therapy. Other than that, I can be much more honest via email than in person, and thankfully my T is ok with that. I can relate to the idea of not knowing what you need help with, yet still knowing you need help. I think as long as you can at least articulate it a little bit, it gets the conversation going and that’s helpful.

I picked a black crayon (bc, best describes my depression) and started scribbling on the page. 10 minutes later, I had drawn a horrific, screaming face, but ended up summing my feelings up without words. I brought it into my T, and she loves looking at my art because it sometimes says more than words. Are words hard when speaking, or can you write it out? My T also allows me to e-mail and journal (and bring the journal in for her to read), because I can express myself so much easier through written word. That is how she has really seen how well I am doing through my written words. Can you try any of these? |

Oh, didn't see this. Good! I hope it helps when you see her.

I tend to act out when I need help but don't want to ask. It has never worked for me. I expect someone to notice, but no one ever does, not even my therapist (except one time, but then I lied to her anyway, so it was pointless).
My point is, I'm glad you sent an email. That will be much more helpful. Asking for help is so scary but you won't regret doing so.
