@NP Maybe it would be better to either throw the stuff out or give it away. You could certainly post on Craigslist that you have a bunch of stuff, it's in need of cleaning due to a fire, but it's free - and somebody will want it. If you can't go through that, maybe the rule could be that you toss one box before each therapy session. It would be your choice whether you open it or not. I don't think choosing to get rid of the stuff would be unhealthy. If you can afford it, a fresh start might be nice - and you must not need what's in the boxes that badly, since they're still packed up.
Thanks for this!

Oh right, I forgot about that. But ALF is an alien so maybe the taste would be out of this world.

I would like to get rid of almost everything. Unfortunately, wanting to get rid of everything plays into the feeling that I'm on this inexorable path right now.

I was wondering why the Couch needed an Oreo airport as I was catching up. Lack of sleep and the blahs are getting to me.

Now that I know why I'm wanting to eat too much again (thanks again ff!) I'm feeling better about it and realizing that I need to find validation of my feelings within myself and not rely on getting it from other people namely Lulabelle. Give myself the validation I so crave.

Why am I just learning this now...?

I need someone to sit next to me in session and smack me or perhaps kick me if I start bringing up a loaded topic at the 10 minute or less mark. Why do I do this to myself???

Then again, I did try to bring it up at the start, but that led to T asking a question that sent us down a different (yet related and mostly helpful) path for much of the session. Still, wish I’d just held off on other part till Monday...

I mentioned the phenomenon of “doorknob therapy” to Piaf a couple weeks ago. She knew the phenomenon but not the term. I explained how Lacan used to not tell his clients how long a session would be—3 minutes, 10 minutes, 50 minutes—so as to avoid it.

Being Piaf, and practical, she immediately said, “I don’t know how that would work with insurance.”

Au contraire — I’d say insurance would’ve loved Lacan and attempted to have everyone else follow suit.

Coz by that logic what’s to stop the therapist from churning through a dozen clients in an hour?

The variability by Lacan’s theory would then be something like whether the client got a few seconds versus I dunno, five whole minutes.

I can then totally see the few-seconds client starting many a thread on PC on how their therapist doesn’t like them if they’re routinely immediately after clients who get one, two, three or five minutes.

I can then see Lacan and company doing nothing else but addressing the clients’ resentment and anger in the few seconds / minutes the client has.

Lots of practical difficulties.
Thanks for this!

I found out the hard way that my therapist doesn't expect people to bring up the most important topics until the latter part of session. This came up after I'd put everything out there one session and, after a long silence, pretty much yelled that was it, that's what I wanted to talk about. And she said oh, well usually it takes people until the last part to get to what they want to talk about. ffs

Never wake a sleeping child or a sleeping cat. Or so I’ve heard.

You can wake a sleeping cat, depending on the cat, wrigglebum Tigger just chirrups when I go to stroke her and she's asleep

Ebony, poor sweetpea, would jump nearly out of her skin and fret (probably cause of the abuse the scumbags did to her)

My boy Dylan, the snugglebug, was a chirruper as well

Beauty, my sugar pie, would jump a little bit due to timidness but then settle again after she knew it was my hand

My big boy Tom would bite first and ask questions later so he wasn't one to try and stroke while he was asleep
Thanks for this!
