I really wanted to go o a gym but they are soo expensive here and they make you sign upridiculous contracts and because of my heart and my disability one gym told me i was a liability risk but i am sure it was because i would i spoil their reputation. Found out later that was the case they only took the buff and entered bodybuilding contests.

Well, couch, it's been a **** few days. My psychiatrist was slow about refilling one of my meds, then there was some insurance issue, so I had to go without for two days. It's been horrible. I was already feeling suicidal, and withdrawal didn't help. Plus, I have a ton of assignments due in the next couple of days. And I apparently got the wrong textbook from the bookstore for one of my classes (even though it was the correct title and edition per the syllabus), so got a 0 on an assignment. Also, the chain fell off my bike halfway to campus, so I had to walk her all the way home. And I keep crying through work because stupid therapy broke me. Feeling exquisitely sorry for myself.

So my...step-mother-in-law? (She married H's father like 5 years ago). Tonight she sent me an email saying how she's going through a tough time. And some stuff from the Bible has helped her. Do I want to go on this journey with her and get regular messages from Jesus?

Uh, how do I answer this politely?

Do you like her / get along with her? And, is she also generally of the live and let live sort (not controlling)?

If yes to both, what would “going on the journey involve”? If it’s just the occasional religious message and writing supportive stuff, I’d treat it as a friend reaching out and accept.

If it’s more stuff that you aren’t willing to go — E.g. commit a whole lot of time and / or money and / or effort to stuff you can’t swallow — I’d consider just letting her know that you’re happy to be there for her and even listen as she works through how religion is helping her in this difficult time but you wouldn’t really feel comfortable, committing to anything else as you wouldn’t be true to your beliefs (no need to specify said beliefs).

Of course, if you’re not close to her and don’t want to get involved, I’d just write back and say that you’re sorry to hear that she’s going through a tough time and really hope she gets through it soon and then specify anything you’re willing to offer (E.g. “H and I can come over and visit” or “If you need a patient ear, feel free to call” etc).

I tend to be partial to religious folks as long as they don’t overtly (subtly is totally fine!) try to convert me — so, I wouldn’t necessarily get spooked out by it but then again, she’s not my family and so, you know the history best on where this is coming from!

Yes - I often have to submit twice before a post will go through

Me: “I’m so sorry to hear things have been difficult for you. I hope you know H and I support you unequivocally. I am glad to hear religion has been a great comfort to you during this hard time. While it isn’t something that I want to explore in my life right now, I do want to encourage you to continue to seek it out. I look forward to seeing you soon.”

My opinion: if Jesus is someone you might like in your life i am sure he can seek out these people himself.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not close to her. So might just go with one of the email response recommendations.

Just want to whine a bit. Have another migraine today. I have chronic migraine so I get them a lot...I'm just sick of them. Maybe I should try botox again. If only it weren't so ridiculously expensive even with my insurance.

Hey, una—I channeled you earlier with a 3 1/2 hour nap.

I just wrote my post for Unit 1 of my English course, on the film “Bride of Frankenstein.” (Jeez, Hollywood has been putting out sucky sequels for 80 years.) We’re not supposed to analyze anything, just write plot summaries. Not only do I have trouble doing that, this is an upper-level 300 course.
