This is the stupidest thing ever, so please forgive me!

I always seem to struggle with getting receipts from therapists. I feel like this shouldn't be hard... I paid you, please give me some written indication that you received payment and what I was paying for.

Last T was fine... she set me up in her system and I was able to download receipts, easy.

Except. Now that therapy has ended, for some reason, her last receipt is not showing paid. There's a statement, but it looks like I still owe her money (I don't - I paid online!)

I really, really, REALLY do not want to have to email her and ask her to update the receipt, because I don't want to open that door for more communication on her part. I really just want to be done, and move on.

Ugh. But I keep my receipts so I can repay myself from my HSA. And I don't think a receipt that shows a balance will work for that.

So frustrating!

Hi Guilloche, I feel your pain. I didn't get a receipt from my PDOC last time even though I paid (cash) so I have no record that I paid and they could literally charge me again. I don't have any specific advice on how you could get your statement updated, but I hope you can. HUGS Kit

My T emails me my receipt at the end of each session. A couple times he's forgotten, and I've had to email him to ask--he generally took care of it pretty quickly. He's said correspondence over things like that and scheduling don't really "count" to him in terms of email. I think if you just keep the email fairly businesslike, hopefully she'll respond the same way. Like "I'm unable to download my final receipt, could you please add it to the system? Thanks!" And nothing else really.

Thanks SlumberKitty and LonesomeTonight. I know, it should be an easy thing to ask for... but since the last session ended so badly, I really hate to open that door to communication. I don't know what she'll say, but I just feel like... if I send her an email... she'll take it as an invitation to say *something*, and I don't want to have to respond, honestly. I'll keep an eye on it online, maybe something will move it to "paid" - the receipt is there, it just shows that I owe the balance, which I don't!

Thanks... it just seems like therapy is hard enough, the "record keeping" part shouldn't be an issue, but I find it often is!

It may just take a bit for the account to be updated. Might give it another week or so. Then, if you have to email, I'd just keep the email very impersonal. "Payment for the session on such and such a date was paid. Please update my invoice to reflect payment."
Thanks for this!

My T gets grumpy when I ask for a receipt. Luckily I only have to ask him for one a few times per year.
Thanks for this!

ArtleyWilkins - Thanks... I'm trying to be patient, but it's already been a week (as of yesterday). I'll give it some more time, but... I'd really like to just get my last receipt and be able to close this out, and be done with it!

Octoberful - Thanks! I'm sorry that your T gets grumpy about giving receipts, I don't really understand that reaction... I've struggled with other Ts, but it's usually when I've only seen them once or twice. I still think they should provide something though - if I'm paying, I should be able to get some record that I paid and what it was for! It just drives me nuts that this ends up being a sticking point sometime when it seems so basic!

Anyway... I'll give it a bit more time and see if it straightens itself out! Thanks.

If it were me, I'd just wait and see if I got a bill for that date, and then contact my T to show I paid.

Oh, he always gets me what I need, he just hates 'paperwork' as he is very clinically focused.

Huh I never get receipts from my T. My flexible spending account bases reimbursement on the explanation of benefits rather than receipts so I've never had to have a receipt. I always have my canceled check if it comes up though.
