Of course the candidates are all like "alcoholic male accountant" or "60-year-old Native American university administrator."

Obviously the goal was regenerate the species, I went for reproductive capacity. So I had like the alcoholic male accountant, the 5 women of childbearing age (one already pregnant), a medical student of no identified gender who was a terrorist, and a 12-year-old orphan boy.

No one else used this principle. One guy ended up with all women and people of indeterminate gender because they had skills.

We are doomed.

I suspect I'd choose more similarly to you. Choosing younger people (vs. the 60-year-old--regardless of their gender) would make sense as well.
Thanks for this!

Guess who's in the crawlspace again? The owner hasn't managed to find him yet but I do hear her in the distance screaming. I'm going to brick the opening over, I swear it would be less hassle to hire a mason anytime I need to get in there!

I have an older gentleman—early 70s—who audits my language seminars most semesters. Usually he gives me some small gift at the end as a thank you.

Today he gave me one of his novels (self-published) and a card. The card is addressed to “Professor ATAT (last name).” The book is inscribed “for my beautiful ATAT (first name). Love...” Huh? Did he inscribe the book initially to some other ATAT and then not give it to her? Why the difference?

Is your name very common? My first is extremely common in the place i live but not anywhere else. But a book you have written is a very personal gift but the difference between card and book is weird

I searched on Whitepages. Looks like it might be his granddaughter’s name.

She’ll probably get one inscribed “For Professor ATAT...”

I've apparently upset a lot of people, including my father, for saying yes to 1 thing my son asked me to get him for Christmas. To get his ears pierced. You would think that I said yes to him committing a crime to how my father reacted.

I know you're still sorting out the visa stuff, but do you have an approx time frame for the move with your partner?
Hugs. Aw, you remember Lemoncake! I feel so cared about.

Our timeframe was as soon as possible but then it took me so long just to do simple stuff. And then he became really unwell and did nothing on the documents on his side. I feel it's mostly my fault, as I have a lot of psychological baggage around leaving my country.

I don't know what to do. I'm supposed to visit my parents across the country for a few days but I've been feeling really awful. I want to cancel but my parents would be so sad and angry and I don't feel like I have the energy to deal with their feelings on top of mine.

I hate depression and how indecisive and stupid it makes me. I HATE IT.

That's so weird that people are freaking out about it--they're his ears, for crying out loud.

How old is your son?
Thanks for this!

He's 10. My father said he's too young and gave me attitude when I said my daughter had hers done since she was 1.

Does the school dress code allow it?

Yes, they don't have anything about ear piercings from what I read. He definitely wouldn't be the only boy at his school with them.

I might be a bit hesitant at ten, but really that's your call and much depends on how you work with your own kids.

I would have waited simply because, at 10, my boys weren't decisive enough to really know for certain they weren't going to change their minds later. None of them have chosen to get their ears pierced yet, and they are all very firmly adults at this point, so I probably would have made the right call for them.

You just have to know your own kids.
Thanks for this!

CPS caseworker will be here in 2 hours. No snow storm to get out of it this time. I'm hoping it goes smoothly but I'm already freaking out.

That was absolutely pointless. Once again he was only here for 5 mintues, said they're referring us to in home therapy for the kids but still waiting on a therapist for that and left. In home therapy through the community mental health center isn't going to do anything about my H. I'm so upset.
