Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.

Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely.

This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means.

It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends.

We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience.

Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread.

Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy.

I named this one the overcoming couch because we are all working hard at overcoming stuff! We can do it!

My coworker in NY is smart. I wished she worked in the CA office with me.

I had a T session on Saturday with my Regular T. It went well. We worked on mindfulness of thought (capturing thoughts), anxiety over people being mad at me even when I have no evidence to support that, and what do I do with those thoughts and feelings, my inability to feel anger and how that builds up in me, and my reoccuring flashbacks of the hospitalization.

Have to go pick up a prescription after work. I was just there on Saturday getting my ADHD medication and now it's time to go back! Always something!

Thanks for the new couch! My p-doc had an opening at 10:30 tomorrow, so seeing her then. Receptionist was like, "Phone, Facetime, Skype, or Zoom?" I went with Zoom, as I'm used to it now. It's just weird having to make those sorts of choices...

You and the stopdog were meant to be together, if you would just transform into a dog?

So the student government at my school came up with a one-time (hopefully) teaching award: "Best Pandemic Pedagogue." You're reading a post by her right now. I've won teaching and research awards before, but I think I'm proudest of this one. I might even hang the certificate up on my office wall.

Spoke to T1 this afternoon and talking to him again on Thursday. I briefly recapped the weekend for him and the things that happened. I didn't talk in details about everything, but he also said he didn't need details if i was too uncomfortable sharing.

Yeah but i need somebody who can put a smoke alarm back up on the freakin wall.

Eta - okay, i got it to stick, but now its telling me it doesnt like my 3 and 4 year old batteries.

Its 90 pct humidity outside, i dont think anything is going to catch fire tonight.

That thing was chirping for 10 minutes every hour last night. It gave me the weirdest sense of reality.

So @@ - you are gonna be running that place pretty soon!! Well done!

Navajo rabbit, you jinxed me. I was just drifting off to sleep finally when the detector in my bedroom started its low battery beep. And then the detector in the hall followed. New dectectors as of 2 years ago, never changed a battery in them. Don’t even know how to get them off the wall yet or where the battery compartment opens.

Forty minutes later, I do. That’s after digging out old 9v batteries, one of which it rejected (was unwrapped for some reason), realizing I only had 3 batteries, knowing that at 1 am during a pandemic *nothing* is open now to get more, not even Walmart, climbing up and down a stepladder multiple times, having to open one of the non-beeping ones to check how to insert the battery because I forgot to look when I took the beeping ones’ batteries out, setting off three of four alarms...and now finally there is peace. I was thiiis close to just cutting wires. I mean, didn’t it used to be you could just take the damn battery out and leave it that way?

Loan dog thinks it’s walksies time. New cat thinks it’s breakfast time. I’m wide awake.

I won’t be winning “Best Pandemic Smoke Alarm Tender.”

My gastro wants me to do a barium swallow.
I got off the telemed appt. w/him & decided there was no way that was going to happen.
There are other procedures I could get done, but those take place at a hospital, so I will just wait it out. It's for GERD, so it can wait.

There is something very nightmarish about the smoke alarm chirping during the covid. Very 1984. I half expect Richard Burton to start yelling at me. And then yes, how do you get batteries?

Congrats! It would have been fantastic if they would have given you some toilet paper as well.

It’s like the smartest thing I did this year.

I saw this on the news the other day from a 99 year old vet who recovered from Covid 19: he said, "I'm a warrior, not a worrier." Dude, this guy is my hero. I want to be like him!

Congrats on the award, @@

Started PHP today. It’s weird because it’s telehealth. But I guess it’ll be nice because I won’t feel so isolated. I know several of the people from IP. Just hoping I can sleep better tonight to be more present tomorrow.

Oh! I forgot to tell you all...H finally sold the Tesla! Now we have a little more cushion. Still don't have a lot of savings. If we're careful we can last until next year.

Have you read Illness as a Metaphor by Susan Sontag?

ATAT - I am impressed with your middle of the night smoke alarm tenacity. I would have knocked them down, removed the old batteries and waited until morning or even the next week to do anything else. The reason I know I would do it is because I have.
