Couch 228--The Wellness Couch

Info was especially annoying today. She tried to teach me how to have a dialogue between parts. Of course, the first step there is to admit that there are parts...(and yes, I know some of you agree with her that there are, that's fine, I'm not starting an argument here, just venting about my therapy appointment).


She also wanted me to enter a screen name, so I just put in The Client, because she was being especially rote and unimaginative today: "what does that bring up?", "a piece of that may be...", "what would it be like to be...?"


You know, I'm half-seriously considering writing a scene of how rote appointments with her can be, with two characters, The Therapist and The Client, and making her read The Client role in the next session. Maybe she'll even recognize her patterns.


None of this helped with the topic, which was about regretting sending those poems to my writer's group and what to do about that regret.


Also I had to define autonomous for her, like an autonomous car. (She had the parts driving around in a car at one point.)


Fashion report: black sleeveless blouse, lots of ruffles around the neck. Silver double hoop earrings. Couldn't see anything else.

The parts being "people in a car" analogy she used is so incredibly common. I started using it (even though I sure got annoyed with myself) because I couldn't think of any other analogy to use with my pdoc.

It figures Info can’t even come up with an original analogy.


The parts she was referring to were not even DID parts, it was more like “the part of you that feels x” versus “the part that feels y.” You don’t have to start talking about parts to talk to a client that has conflicting emotions.

I definitely agree.

Only reason why I even use that car analogy (there's a similar bus one for larger number of alters) is because it distinguishes OSDD-1/DID parts from regular conflicting emotions. Specifically "switching" = part hijacks the driver's seat while you are pushed into a passenger seat.

The regular conflicting emotions parts just doesn't need an overly complicated analogy. And of course she should respect you on not liking parts talk.

Maybe my previous T attended the same courses. The talk about how antelope deal with trauma was amusing, if not entirely relevant to my situation.

Thankfully, R is much better, and has observed what works for me over our time together.

Congrats on getting moved out! I forget--are you staying with BF for a bit before actually moving? You definitely deserve a nap. And glad you got the full rent!

Not sure if you want comments, but maybe a different T would work better with you? Do you find the sessions overall helpful?

Sometimes I feel like Info just attended a bunch of training sessions and continuing ed courses and picked up a bunch of random phrases she spouts at me.

Almost finished the first Jurassic Park audiobook. I like Malcom the most.
