She also wanted me to enter a screen name, so I just put in The Client, because she was being especially rote and unimaginative today: "what does that bring up?", "a piece of that may be...", "what would it be like to be...?"

You know, I'm half-seriously considering writing a scene of how rote appointments with her can be, with two characters, The Therapist and The Client, and making her read The Client role in the next session. Maybe she'll even recognize her patterns.

None of this helped with the topic, which was about regretting sending those poems to my writer's group and what to do about that regret.

Also I had to define autonomous for her, like an autonomous car. (She had the parts driving around in a car at one point.)

Fashion report: black sleeveless blouse, lots of ruffles around the neck. Silver double hoop earrings. Couldn't see anything else.

Or a block and tackle.
The parts being "people in a car" analogy she used is so incredibly common. I started using it (even though I sure got annoyed with myself) because I couldn't think of any other analogy to use with my pdoc.

I would have been so frustrated if I had a session like yours. It feels like Info was just "phoning it in", extra rote and unimaginative like you said.

Hugs if wanted.

It figures Info can’t even come up with an original analogy.

The parts she was referring to were not even DID parts, it was more like “the part of you that feels x” versus “the part that feels y.” You don’t have to start talking about parts to talk to a client that has conflicting emotions.

I definitely agree.

Only reason why I even use that car analogy (there's a similar bus one for larger number of alters) is because it distinguishes OSDD-1/DID parts from regular conflicting emotions. Specifically "switching" = part hijacks the driver's seat while you are pushed into a passenger seat.

The regular conflicting emotions parts just doesn't need an overly complicated analogy. And of course she should respect you on not liking parts talk.

Sometimes I feel like Info just attended a bunch of training sessions and continuing ed courses and picked up a bunch of random phrases she spouts at me.

Maybe my previous T attended the same courses. The talk about how antelope deal with trauma was amusing, if not entirely relevant to my situation.

Thankfully, R is much better, and has observed what works for me over our time together.

Not sure if you want comments, but maybe a different T would work better with you? Do you find the sessions overall helpful?

Oh, that's interesting, Cake. I didn't make the Peter Levine connection at the time.
Now he's one of my favourite trauma researchers.

Waking The Tiger is a great book.

Thanks, LT!

Yup, I’m staying with the BF for two weeks, spending a week as camp “nurse” at my childhood summer camp, hanging with the parents for a few days, then moving in to the new place!

Don't think I haven't considered it, but by now she's like an unofficial mascot for my life, albeit an expensive one.

And I won't find another therapist if I quit her. Done with her is done with therapy. My patience for what feels like patent medicine to me is too thin to survive another therapist.

If she ever says anything about how antelopes deal with trauma, I will pretend to be amazed at her zoopsychological savvy and ask questions like, "How about wildebeests, what do they do? Or quaggas? And ibices*, what about them?"

*The more correct plural of ibex, before una gets on my case.

I had missed date nights. I had not missed date night fights. At least we had taken two cars...so that I could go home, he could go out by himself for a bit, then get D.

And the fight stemmed from me talking about my wanting to be more involved in parenting...to be more partners in it.
