Thanks for sharing--this actually backs up what I was saying, that it's more of a psychological than physiological reaction (as in, not physical dependence). I'm reacting to the idea of the alcohol, not the alcohol itself. Like a placebo effect, in a way. Like...I'm curious--if someone told me the drink in front of me was a regular beer, but it was actually a nonalcoholic beer, would the sight or smell (possibly first sip, if it were a decent replica) trigger the same response?

ETA: OK, I guess with the dopamine, it's a physiological reaction, in a sense, but I mean that it's not consuming the alcohol itself that's necessarily causing the response. Like...I don't know, like if I got some sense of calm from smelling fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies without even tasting one.

The pap is invasive, the mammogram is external. There's a huge difference in just that alone. You've had a bad experience the first time too so it's no wonder you were freaked out. You're so brave for getting it done.

I've just submitted a poem to a publisher for the first time since January 2020.

David Whyte, one of my favourite poets and thinkers, believes that 'Part of having a gift is sharing it'...and doing that in the midst of All This feels like a big step.

I packed up 6 boxes of books this morning in preparation for moving, and also sorted through 3 more boxes of paperwork we had saved for way too many years. I have been busy since I woke up today! Most of the discarded paperwork is now either in a box to go get shredded or in the recycle bin.

And the big tub that I bought to hold 9+ years of therapy notebooks and dream journals is full to the brim. I'm going to need to start a 2nd one.... or buy a bigger tub and use this one for something else. It makes me feel happy to have all of that stuff in one place now. It used to bother me knowing there were bits and pieces of it all throughout the house.

I haven't really done any decluttering over the years so there's a lot of stuff to go through, even though I live in a pretty small apartment with a roommate and am not taking any furniture.

One funny thing is that there are small bills and tampons EVERYWHERE. (Coat I haven't worn in three years? Two tampons and three ones. Old backpack? Four tampons and a five dollar bill.)

Another funny thing is that after four years of living together, my roommate and I legitimately can't remember if some of the kitchen stuff is hers or mine or something we both pitched in on. We're get along pretty well and both have enough disposable income that it isn't a huge deal if we make the wrong call. But the experience makes me appreciate that it must be utter agony to go through this process during a divorce or after a death.
I'm also going to have to do this too soon after I'm done with exams. I'm really dreading it to be honest. I'm amazed at how much stuff I have accumulated in one teeny studio place.

I'm going to become an extreme minimalist after this.

Maybe in your new home you could add them to a new bookshelf instead of having them in tubs?

People who put unnecessary u's into words that end in -or shouldn't wield swords. Or is that swourds?

All I ask is consistency. If she ignores all other apostrophes, she should ignore the one in c'mon. I mean, she was a computer programmer...

Of course, una is not the most reliable in matters of punctuation or the heart.

I'm becoming minimalist as well in our new house. Except for my books, of course. I still want to be surround by my books.

I am going to strive to have a clutter-free home this time around. Besides, I don't plan on ever moving again after this and I don't want to leave a ton of basically junk that our son would have to go through someday.

nope. waaaaay too much vulnerable stuff in my journals. they shall stay secreted away where hubby and no visitor will ever lay eyes on them while there remains breath in my body. Love the spiral staircase though!!

I would dearly love, to somehow catalog my dreams in a (private of course) searchable database. That would be SO awesome to have.

I was just working in the library again, going through more boxes of crap, and have a big pile in the middle of the floor to recycle. Came out here to get a garbage bag to put it in, and got sidetracked by my laptop. Haha. H went to get his hair cut, I want to have this bit done before he gets back so back to work I go.

Marie Kondo also has a show on Netflix which you might like. I personally loved the line : "If it sparks joy keep it."
