I agree with Sky, he shouldn't be telling you how you feel. My T has said our relationship doesn't have to end. He'll be in the business for a long long time.

He used to talk about graduation but he realized at some point, I wasn't ready to hear that so he adjusted.

Well, the word, 'graduation' is just another fantasy way of looking at it.

Obviously me and T will have to discuss this further.

Well, I have just been to therapy and I went in there and stated my case, that I NEED therapy.

Do you know I got it all wrong!!! I got hold of the wrong end of the stick. His question was what is the next step in therapy so I jumped to the wrong conclusion!

He's actually looking into bringing in other support to help me. I'm not sure what he means by that. Find out next week.

It's so easy to jump to conclusions when we are feeling vulnerable isn't it?? It can really suck. I'm so glad to hear that your T is trying to work with you and find alternative help to supplement...that's really great!

Ahh sabby, I have been struggling so much and been under so much stress and of course I thought the worst possible. I do feel like a failure in many respects but maybe my view of that will change also. Anyway, I don't need to worry about being kicked out of therapy now.

I know times have been tough for you lately. I see you as a huge success! You are raising your family...you have 2 beautiful children who have manners, are pleasant and intelligent and happy. You have a long term marriage, you are educated, you work....you are successful and you are an absolute joy to know and have as a friend....

Don't get down on yourself for what is just a miscommunication. Communication is a 2-way street, so he had to have been somewhat unclear for you to get the wrong idea.

I saw my therapist from 1978 to 1987 and then again from 1996 to 2005 (notice the 9 years on, 9 years off, 9 years on again pattern :-) and we both retired in 2005. I told her though a couple months before that I was going to have to start therapy again with someone in 2014 (I'll be 64 :-)

My T and I started the termination process in 2003 I think, that Fall (terminated at end of June 2005, my T just let her license lapse) and as "horrible" as it was, it was also pretty helpful. You'd be surprised how much more you can get out of therapy when you know there's a finish line!

sorry to hear. but you're not terminating, right? isn't that the key--for now? you've handled it very well even when you thought it was over no matter what you said or did. be proud. that's a big burden to cope with.

To be seeing a T for 6 years and then get told that must be awful. I hope you come to some kind of arrangement that is comfortable for you and your T.

It sounds very scary peg. Congrats for not hitting your T in the face for saying that you've learned everything, that's what I would have done. But that wouldn't help the situation would it really ?

When we are stressed out a lot of things can come under misinterpretation. If you want to keep going you should be able to unless you are completely better and therapy isn't doing you any good of course. I didn't read this whole thread but hope you got some insight and help with this. Termination, even the thought of it, is so hard.
