My "hunny" has been diagnosed with bipolar for years. However he refuses to take his meds because "they slow me down too much" I know as a nurse this is typical and I cannot force him to take his meds. ... BUT he refuses to see how it affect MY depression and our sons life.. He refuses to go to counceling as he does not care for my councler (sp). Every time I have a crisis he swears he will take his meds and not stop but he seems to be unable to stick to that promise. I am so tired of fighting the disease and his disease too..........

Welcome to my world. My depressed boyfriend is the same way... either not caring or not understanding the havoc it wreacks on our life together.

A good support forum for the families/significant others of people with depression/bipolar is:
http://pub131.ezboard.com/fdepressio...ressionfallout

I use it daily -- you'll find that you are NOT alone in this! Very very frustrating -- I totally know what you're going through.

Hope to see you at the other board!

We are ALL going to be a-ok!

From what I understand it is a very common problem of people who are bipolar to stop taking their meds while in a "manic" phase. I wonder if there is anyone here, either bipolar themselves or with a friend or family member who is, who has any advice on how they convince themselves to keep taking their meds right through the manic phase?
