Want to forget past hurts but I didn't deal with them at the time and now I do not feel I can. I think it is too late and I should just resolve to go on from here and learn that I have to deal with things in a timely fashion. Got really hurt though and it has affected me as I have withdrawn from people and do not feel very able to do the friendly things that I want to. I think I should though and just deal with anything I have to. Much pain in my body and blocks in mind.

I think it's usually hard to get over past hurts. I gather that yours much have been very painful.

I got some great therapy to help me deal with a painful past, and I am really glad I did. I suggest that you check into that approach, too. It's sad to keep having our current lives affected by something that happened a long time ago. I know how that is.

You are right that it is best to try to deal with things when they happen. That's one reason why I continue in therapy.

I can relate to feeling this way. For me I am still trying to find the courage to go to therapy. I wish you the best

Hi Pianogirl, sometimes if the hurt is real bad you might not be ready to deal with it at the time, it might just be too much to face/confront, so don't fault yourself on that. Although as you know it won't necessarily just go away even if you aren't facing it "full on" and working to resolve it.
I'm not sure it has to be too late at any time after something has happened to really deal with it though. Maybe now, while you're a little stronger, have a little more insight it would be a good time to start working on things.
Sure, trying to take any lessons you can from something, putting it more in your past and focusing on making the future better can be a great idea. But if it is too difficult to do that then you may want to return to what happened to you and work a bit more on trying to resolve it and finding some "peace" in yourself.
If you want to talk more though..........
