I have Delusional disorder. But think I may have experienced signs of schizophrenia?
I resigned from my job last week, couldn't handle it. My boss left me a message on my phone asking about some work I hadn't handed over. I interpetted it as if he was accusing me of sharing confidential information with another company. I only asked for some help from brother-in-law about a document I had to write. Anyway, I decided to read my contract of employment, when I read it, I couldn't beleive I had signed the contract. They had control over my life, I had been taped, they were tapping into my phone calls, I wasn't allowed to travel abroad, I was liable for any losses to the business, and that any foul play on my behalf would be shared with the media. I thought the CIO was going to get me for breaching my contract. I couldn't move from my bed, I was shaking with fear. Every paranoid thought I had during the last few weeks, all came together and made sense. Eventually I decided to read the contract agian, it was like it was a different document all together, none of what I read before was there, then I began to think someone was in the house and had swapped the document when I wasn't looking, so I decided to go and check if someone was there (no-one was) but as I entered the room I got a flash in my vision as if I was being struck by something. I also thought that my boss had connections with the CIO (I heard him mention the CIO) and that the message he left had been swapped. I was doomed! people are really out to get me!!! I have never had this happen before, but have had persecutary delusions for 18 months now. Is this Schizphrenia rearing its head?

Quote: Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
I don't think experiencing paranoia means you automatically have schizophrenia. Paranoia has lots to do with fear, so you're on the right course in getting info. Speaking to a lawyer may put your fear to rest. You can usually talk to them over the phone, first time free.

I'd like to add to this thread: firstly if it were real, would I be here typing this message???
I do know that fear has a lot do with my experiences, and maybe, just maybe the word paranoid is out of context. But that doesn't mean I am not paranoid. Or else the doctors wouldn't diagnose me as being delusional... In a nut shell, the basic question between the lines of my post was; be careful, pay attention; How can I read something in one moment; and then read it again in a few hours time and it (to me) is a different document all together. Am I hallucinating? Why did I read the document and it meant (to me) that I was doomed? If I didn't stop and re-read the document I would probably still be in bed full of fear! F, if I wasn't meantally ill do you think I'd be here, is it my choice? I don't choose to be mentally ill. I am merely on a journey, trying to understand my mind and the people that influence it, negatively or positively!!!

I thought i had read a while ago about delusional disorder that it said in order for it to be delusional disorder,1-delusions must be the only symptom, and 2, the delusions are false, but not unrealistic.
If you read the diagnostic criteria of schizophrenia, it first says, 2 or more of the following symptoms must be present: Delusions hallucinations negative symptoms disorganized speech.behavior Then at the bottom is says that only one symptoms is nessicary if the delusions are bizzar or the voices keep up a running commentary on the person I think that your delusions would be categorized as bizzar, because ideas that the CIO and such are after you are concidered very unrealistic. It also sounds like you had a visual hallucination (the vision) Your symptoms do sound more like schizophrenia to me, but im not a doctor so i cant really diagnose you. are you on any meds?, I hope things get better for you . good luck -Becka |

Yea it sucks when all your paranoid thoughts come together and it all makes perfect sense - and then it's relieving when you realise you'd misinterpretted something.

I've read that with Paranoid Schizophrenia that the symptoms of flattening, disorganized thoughts and incoherence are not present.
