Well, I couldn't help but notice there were other types which made more money. Enterprising, for example. My type gets 'babysitter.' That type gets 'CEO.'

I just took the quiz here:
http://www.roguecc.edu/counseling/hollandcodes/test.asp
I got codes CAI and CIA (hehe). My suggested careers are tax analyst, legal services assistant (hey! > ) and building inspector.
Not sure what to make of that.

Also, it asks, "Do you like to . . . participate in meetings?"
Whoever checks that box either needs their head examined, or has never been in a meeting.

Weird, eh? I guess it takes all types to make the world go round.

I took it again at the ONET website. I got almost exactly the same results, except that site tells you not to take into consideration whether you actually know how to do the activity. So they ranked me slightly higher on artistic than social and recommended things like dancer teacher.

Now I'm going to take the one you took.

okay, i took the one fishsandwich listed. i usually find these things horribly useless, but i tried hard to be honest, and they actually listed several things i might actually really like to do. (although i find it hilarious that someone who is "psychotic" scored highest in "realistic!")

I got the same types as my top 3: S and I tied for top, then A.

Chaplain, Dental hygenist, Librarian, Speech pathologist.

I think I'll be a chaplain cum librarian in a prison. Or a hospital. I'll listen to them cry, then give them a nice romance to read.

That is hilarious!

I think 'realistic' means that you like to do things - like working with your hands.

I think it's funny that a complete introvert like me is described as 'social.'

I took the one at the ONET website (I assume I did, anyway -- the one I took was at www.mynextmove.com). I don't get how I'm supposed to rate some of that stuff. I have no idea what, say, raising fish in a fish hatchery involves . . .

And it asked if I would like to fight forest fires, and now I have this in my head:

And this rather alarming ditty came up on the youtube search:

I got RIE, picked job zone 5 (requires advance education) and got lawyer, economist, statistician, and operations research analyst.

I keep getting that too. Because obviously we see the world at its most real, that's why we're so crazy.

/not being funny here

I do find it bizarrely reassuring that these stupid online tests just keep reaffirming the career I already chose and trained for. 'Cause it's far, far too late to take back all those years of legal education

lol... I almost said that same thing. Then I thought, "Like she's going to care what some stupid online test says!" But then I'm sitting here thinking, "I don't want to be a teacher!"

Well, it is real to me!
I do like to actually, physically, do something at work. At the end of the day I like to be able to point at something and say, that's what I accomplished. I also see "realistic" as meaning practical. I am definitely practical, and I see this as one of the reasons that, while I often see and hear things that others do not experience, I don't get too caught up in them. I don't try to force them on others. I don't worry about them if there's really no need to.
This also means that I like to just plain do what is necessary. This can be good in the workplace.

Yeah, I'm trying to explore options before settling on one. Psychologist has the same types as the ones I keep pulling up but arranged in a different order - ISA. So, it's still in the running. The problem I have is I'd need to get some prerequisites out of the way, then a long educational stint. If I can find something to do that's along the same lines but I can move into more quickly that's what I'll do.

I'm not a young woman, and I'd like to look before I leap.

@fishsandwich - see? you intuitively knew what career you were meant to have!

@costello - these tests sometimes test more of what you're good at, rather than what you enjoy. maybe if you don't enjoy the things you're good at, you should learn some new skills? or just ignore it - it is, afterall, just a test!

Yeah, the tests seem to be pretty accurate to me. At least I've come up with mostly the same results with three different tests.

I actually picked it based on a combination of "most prestigious university programme I was accepted to" (I also applied to aerospace engineering, but I didn't get into any good unis for it) and " most remunerative".

It turned out OK, though. I actually like the law. And I get to wear a silly wig and a bathrobe at work.

Are you sure you need more education to be a psychologist? Maybe you could be a counsellor or a life coach or something.
Hell, I got my social work qualification (mostly) on-the-job.

I meant that the things that are a part of my so-called psychosis are real to me, therefore realistic. Plus, I was referring to what fishsandwich said.
(just to clarify -)

I think it's meant to be an interest inventory. At this point in my life, I think what I'm good at has dovetailed with what I enjoy anyway. We tend to enjoy what we're good at and be good at what we enjoy.

I'm using it as a way to explore options. There are so many possible jobs out there! It's overwhelming. This lets me narrow down the options to things that are most likely to meet my interests. But if I see something I like that isn't on the list, I'll explore the one I like.

I've actually read a lot about psychosis that says that psychotic people see MORE of reality than people with other kinds of operating methods . . . it's just that we also get so much information from the world (because of all the reality we experience) that we start trying to build systems and integrate it all . . . and when we fail, we get psychotic breaks and hallucinations and stuff.
Apparently people who aren't psychotic are better at ignoring extraneous reality stuff.

Also, my English is totally gone tonight

Yeah, that's the kind of think I'm thinking. Is there a way to get at the core of the job that interests me without spending another gazillion years in school?

Exactly. Good. I don't know that I agree that people enjoy what they're good at and vice versa, but I'm sure it's true for some people.

I don't always know that circumventing education is a good idea. I would want a psychologist to qualified.
But I do understand the frustration of doing a bunch of non-related courses. Just skip to those relevant.
