I'm trying to remind myself that this too shall pass. Not helping tonight.

Too much crap at once. Maybe I'll win the Powerball tonight and go buy myself a place far, far out in the country.

I am glad you are feeling better the little digee! I found some pretty mushrooms while walking one of my dogs this evening. I haven't identified them yet.

Our new couch came today! Soooo comfy! I feel a lot better now.

Costello did you name all your chickens? Also do you notice distinct personalities?

I actually set out not to name them. I didn't want to get attached. I should have known that was a forlorn hope.

They're all different breeds, so I call them by their breed: Production Red, White Leghorn, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, and Red Star. Then there's Hilda, because I don't know her breed. And I started calling Barred Rock Greedy Guts, because she was so cute jumping up to steal the meal worms directly from the container.

Yes, they all have different personalities. Some of it's breed specific, but some of it's just the individual. It's like dog breeds. Different breeds tend to have different characteristics, but each dog is unique.

I'm surprised at how many people tell me that. I post about them on fb. I have people I know in IRL come up and tell me they follow the chicken posts - even though they never comment on them or even 'like' them.

They're funny little things. Today they're in disarray. I don't know if it's because they saw Greedy Guts meet her end, or if it's just confusing to have the one at the top of the pecking order missing. I just know I had a hard time getting them into the coop tonight. And Hilda reverted to trying to sleep on the top of my car - which I thought I'd broken her of.

Oh wow! Sounds like their out of sorts. Hopefully they'll get back to normal soon.

They will. I've been through this before. I started with 4. One I accidently killed with my car. Then there were three. I came home one day and found the neighbor's dog had killed two. That left just Hilda. And I got there just in time to stop the dog from pouncing on her too!

Hilda was pretty lost for a while. Her whole crew was gone. I went out that night and bought 6 more chicks, but it was a while before they were big enough to put outside. And even now, several months later, it's like there's a small flock over there and then there's Hilda over there. Chickens have little communities, and it's not always easy to integrate flocks.

My friend's buddy also has chickens and apparently the eggs are quite tasty. Costello are you rearing them for eggs?

Yes, that was my original purpose. The only one old enough to lay eggs is Hilda, and so far I've only got two eggs - and one of those was cracked. She hides them somewhere.

One day I accidently closed her into the garage when I left for work. When I got home and put up the door, she rushed out flapping and squawking. When I went to feed them, I found a perfect brown egg behind the feed bag.

I wonder where she hides them.

I don't know. My yard is pretty wild. Lots of trees and undergrowth. Somewhere out there is a stash of brown eggs.

There must be quite a pile of them by now. I hope the other chickens don't follow her lead.

I have to vent: Ron came home and was in a great mood and so was I and things were nice for a few minutes. He has the day off tomorrow and so this is the night to have fun. I went to take a shower and he got mad at my dog and wouldn't drop his anger. Now, he has pouted, put on his Darth Vader sleep apnea mask and gone to bed. What a complete butt-head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So here I am back on Pc. I won't let his immature pouting get me down.
