She is doing much better now. Abilify made her do things she never did before and have very scary visuals. Once I took her off that medication that all went away. I had to be the one to taper her off because the stupid pdoc at the time wanted to keep her on it despite all the extra symptoms she starting having from taking this medication. I had to get right up in this pdoc's face and demand that he write a prescription for a lower dosage of the stuff so that I could do the taper. That was a very scary time for my daughter and for me as her mother. Now she takes a very low dosage of 20mg of Citalopram. That has worked for her. She had a lot of therapy during that time too and was blessed to have a really great therapist who taught her coping skills and really helped her pull up out of the deep depression that she had been in.

For Bean, we had little choice. She has been in 3 times with chronic psychosis. She does not remember much but did ask me why girls in there would cut themselves. But she is young. I worry about when she is a teenager and may need to go back in....teens trade ideas at times...

Yes I know of Green Oaks and after my daughter's stay at Timberlawn I was told that she could have received better treatment at Green Oaks. I don't know if that is true or not and am glad we never had to try it out.

Im very glad she is doing better too. Its a scary thimg to have to watch and try to help your child.

Change your diet?

I cannot explain it in words how much it hurt but I can say that I hope and pray that we never have to go through that ever again. My daughter and I are very close so I pray that she would come to me and tell me if things were getting bad for her again.

you dont really receive better treatment there. they got a lot of people to deal with and they have no activitys besides 1-2 groups a day. they were hauling people off to Terrell State Hospital by the handful to stay for months.

west plano has a program that has better care called the Seay Center. they have the best care. they take people outside AND have the nicest doctors. and a workout/art room. etc.

My mother helped me through the despondency I just went through. Having that support was really helpful. There were some very challenging days. It got so bad in the middle of January, that I thought about asking my psychiatrist about hospitalization. My mom helped me through those awful feelings. Without her support I would have ended up in the hospital.

My mom is a great support. She always tells me to talk and reach out.

Knowing what I know now, I will do everything in my power not to ever have her back in a hospital. I hope and pray that she never gets that bad again. But with Mental Illness I know I cannot predict the future. There is a long line of Mental Illness in our family. So the odds are against her.

I'm trying to eat properly and regularly. I added some new foods such as nuts and more fish to my diet. I'm a picky eater.

Any suggestions?

I will always do what is the best thing for her. I just will never ever allow her to ever go back to Timberlawn again. That place is worthless!

Bean goes back to the same hospotal every time.
Four Winds Hospital here un upstate ny.
Park like setting, each little brown house is specific for age so kids are not allowed around others not their age. About 20 kids at a time and very strict.
Still....when there, you are not well so anything can happen.

This makes me wonder if patients are getting misdiagnosed with disorders that have SI as part of their diagnostic criteria. For many people SI and the other behaviors are a phase they go through to cope with an overwhelming situation. I know for me it was.

I know for certain that if I did not start cutting, I would not have been diagnosed with a PD. I have autism spectrum disorder which can be easily mistaken for a PD.
