My boyfriend wants to buy a home that's cheap (under $100,00) because it would come out to be $500 ish a month which is about the same as a cheap apartment in my area, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. He really wants to move because our landlord is ripping us off and we can't get a studio apartment since everyone keeps turning us down. Everywhere we reply to for studios and one bedroom apartments tell us it's not big enough for two people even though it's 800 sqf which is frustrating. We live in a room share and pay $850 a month which is a lot for a room share since most rooms shares are $300 ish per person and includes everything. My boyfriend doesn't want to do a roomshare with a stranger because he's worried about them seeing my symptoms (like autistic hand flapping and such) and just wants our own place. With all utilities on our own I think it would come out to $300 or less a month which wouldn't be bad. I wish the landlord was nice and cared about us, my boyfriend and him fight a bit because the landlord is dumb about things. He tried to charge us an extra $100 for gas or something, but he's the one that takes a bath and shower twice daily and uses the heat, we live in the basement and just use a electric heater. What do you guys think?

Mfox - i think your current living situation sounds bad, and i hope you can find something else. Buying a home though is a huge committment! Be sure to do your research, and dont let your bf rush you into it. Has he talked to a mortgage rep about prequalifying? That would be the first step.

Yeah which makes me nervous. It's a shame how the landlord is my boyfriend's family member yet doesn't treat us like it. I don't mind the current living situation since my boyfriend is the one paying for almost everything, but I feel bad about it. My boyfriend has contacted an agent about a particular condo we like, but I haven't asked about much of it. I would like to continue to live here and for everything to work out. I'm going to go back to bed since the risperdal is starting to kick in. Have a good day everyone

Nope, she was threatening me all day and I told multiple staff members, including my doc, but she still hit me repeatedly. They didn't even stop her, she stopped herself.

A condo might be nice, mfox, because sometimes they take care of some maintenance, i think? I dont know that much about condos. Ive only had apartments and houses.

Really if you can get a home for $500 a month that you own v.s rent, it is the better idea. First off, it would be your home. That means no landlord to randomly decide to charge extra or suddenly decide they are going to sell out from under you etc. A lot can happen when you rent from a private party if that person is already showing you they aren't a good landlord. So the money you put into the home is an investment rather than lining someone's pocket.

But, the downside to a home is that you will be responsible for everything. So make sure you have good home owning insurance that covers water heater, furnace, and stuff.

You need to report this higher up in the hospital, like find out where. Or, you also need to report this outside the hospital, such as to the state. You will need to research your state and who to report this to. Because it's wrong and it needs to be reported somewhere that the hospital is not doing there job of protecting patients.

Ok so I own a condo---that $500 a month is just the mortgage right---well you also have to pay property taxes and a monthly fee. For me the mortgage is $400 but property taxes spread out over the year equal $200 a month and the condo fee is $265 and it can increase randomly and there can be special assessments for building repairs etc. So a $400 fee per moths ends up at $865 and I have to take care of anything that breaks in the unit. Also you will need a down payment(for me $20,000 for a conventional loan) so unless he has money saved this isn't even going to be an option. Now here is the big problem you're going to have to sell at some point. Due to closing fees etc ie you pay your agents and lawyer and you can't do this without them---those fees make it so if you aren't planning on staying at least 5 years you will definitely lose money when you try to sell. The way the market is now its also really hard to sell so you may have to take an even greater loss. My condo has lost around 1/3 of its value in the 3 years I've lived in it so if I sold it now I would lose $30,000. This is why people rent....if you are going to move in a few years its not worth owning anything...

So I get to work today and find one of my 13 buckets missing from my classroom! Each bucket is labeled with a child's name so this is very weird! Then I open up my cabinet and find a huge lip stick stain on the side of my paper cup that I use and that is marked with my name! Seriously gross! Someone put their nasty lips on my cup then placed it back into my cabinet for me to use! I don't wear any lip stick by the way! I am very O.C.D. and this type of behavior really bothers me! I searched everywhere for my kid's missing bucket but never found it. Of course I threw the paper cup in the trash. Two ladies I work with used the class room next to mine during Spring Break. Both wear lip stick! I really believe that one of them did this to me just to upset me. Very rude and immature! I didn't allow either of them to see how upset I was because then they would have won! I can replace my kid's bucket but people shouldn't mess with my stuff! I never bother anyone's stuff.

While this clearly sucks I doubt they did it to upset you...some people are just more comfortable "sharing" for example there is the classic office work problem where food can disappear from the common fridge some people seem to actually think they can just eat what they want or have no ability to control it---I'm not sure how they think because I've never had anyone fess up to it but there is a wide range of personalities one of the reasons I tend not to enjoy roommates etc. I was in lab one year and we had gotten rid of the Styrofoam cups to save the environment and save $$$ for the department and we had a new summer student who was holding my personal mug and I asked her why she had my mug which was a gift from my sister and she was just like Oh I didn't think it belonged to anyone....seriously? I had it in a plastic baggie so it didn't collect dust and everything so it clearly wasn't abandoned but I guess she just really wanted some coffee or something it seemed insane to me that she wouldn't ask around if things belonged to people at the very minimum. People are so diverse and that is the nicest thing I have to say about that.

Oh my! That would seriously send me into a frenzy! These ladies I work with make fun of me for being so O.C.D. I keep everything extremely clean and in order. I don't do it to upset them this is just how I am. I cannot function otherwise. So because they so openly crack jokes about me is why I am pretty sure it was done just so they could watch me squirm! I'll just never leave another cup in my classroom. And as far as the buckets go I'll just keep an extra just in case this happens again. It's pretty childish behavior on their part. I never share the fridge or the lounge area with them because they aren't very clean in my opinion.

I use my iPhone to get on the forums when I'm feeling lazy and still in bed, lol. I also use it when I'm outside smoking(I know, I know, bad habit. I'm trying to quit!)

Quitting smoking is a hard process I know. Many, many years ago I smoked. The thought crosses my mind every now and then but I never want to start again.

What do you normally find inspiring? For me its anything really good and fun or anything horrible I need to get out so sometimes I'm not so happy but inspired I aim for new stuff places to visit, photograph, new media like seriously thinking about silk painting and the techniques involved are so different than anything I use. If it weren't in violation of my condo rules I would totally try lampwork beads which is a glass melting and recombining technique but you need a small blowtorch to melt the glass rods. So yeah why not try something you've never done before?
