Gr3tta: glad to hear from you I hope you feel better soon.

Alone: I'm sorry you feel paranoid about posting. Thanks for the info on the KYNA.

Sometimes: Thanks for more info. It's all interesting to me.

MedicalFox: This is what I was worried about when you were talking about your landlord. So many bad landlords out there. There is good information on renters rights online. It's not hard to find. I know a house is a lot to afford with mostly one income. If you're going to keep renting, then you need a good landlord. Being at the mercy of other people can really screw things up.

Newtus: For St. Patty's I didn't do anything really. I took the kids outside to play right when I got home. After about 40 minutes I just wanted to go in. So, I made the two of them stand together and play Simon Says and ended with "Simon Says go inside!" Haha. Then I went to the store.... whoo fun... Then I went home. I was so tired we just had cereal for dinner. Then we relaxed and went to be at 10.

It was kind of a weird day for me. Didn't feel like St. Patty's day at all. My dad's mom was half Irish and it's always been a big deal to him. He always made corned beef and cabbage and had a party. Not a drinking party, but just food and a family dinner. Like Thanksgiving, really. It's been tradition since before I was born. But, my dad was the boss of it and he did all the cooking and everything. So... this year is really weird.

Targeting Kynurenine Aminotransferase II in P... [Schizophr Bull. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI
More on KYNA this is a potential drug to block it already being developed. You know I think its funny when they say there are no new drugs in the pipeline when I see new stuff every day but its at the lab level and no where neat clinical trials yet. Part of the problem with any of these new drugs is that they are likely to work on only a subset of the population. So there was one that acted on GRM3 the metabotropic glutamate receptor but they compared it directly to the D2 blockers we have now and it didn't perform as well so they shelved it. To me that doesn't suggest that it doesn't work so much as it may work on a different group of people for example the treatment resistant individuals that have COMT and GRM3 mutations it might be a lifesaving drug for them. I honestly wonder why they don't use treatment resistant individuals as a starting point but suspect it has to do with ability to consent and other ethical issues but if it were me I would try anything at that point. I mean the rest of everyone the D2 blockers work for it is really just an issue of making a slightly better drug for them or is it about helping people who can't be helped with current therapies?

You know that too much coffee actually triggers anxiety right?

The problem is that taking more in one dose isn't going to work much better you have to spread it out through the day. Too much at once pushes toward anxiety and jittery but a nice even spread thought the day is going to work better. So bascially you need to replace it once your body metabolizes it away but at baseline you only need so much to get an adrenaline boost. You can actually get the same effect from exercise as well. Think of it like tylenol or advil if you have 4 extra strength pills at once you can end up killing your liver but if you dose those same 4 pills evenly thought the day you stop a headache for the whole day. Past a certain point pain killers don't become more effective they just become more toxic...same with caffeine.

The interesting thing about caffeen addiction is that if you drink a certain amount of coffee every day at the same time, then your body will have worse and higher withdrawls when it expects it's "dose."

This is really obvious in people who say things like "I can't function until I've had my morning coffee." This is completely a withdrawl thing, and very very common.

So, spreading your caffeen in the day is better for anxiety but you will still have withdrawl symptoms if you get your body used to having A coffee, 5 hr energy, and double espresso for breakfast, evne if you still just choose one of those. Coffeen is a very interesting little drug.

My biggest withdrawls come at dinner time, when I normally would have a soda for dinner, usually a coke. But, I'm trying to give up soda because I need to lose weight, and that's my biggest vice, I think. So, at dinner I feel crazy urges to have a soda.

Wow, Cracking, that's crazy. My whole life we've always kept Onions more than one day sometimes many, many days in the fridge to use them again and again. We've never gotten sick like that... Even my mom and grandma and everyone has done this in my life. I don't know if it's true or not but worth looking into. Maybe we were just lucky.

I thought that was very interesting too. I love onions and have also kept them in my refrigerator. I have never been sick from it as far as I know. I guess just to be on the safe side I won't do it anymore.

Sometimes you are extremely smart...what do you think about that article?

Actually, no, it turns out to be false.

According to Snopes and the "onions become more toxic than spoiled mayo" e-mails:
snopes.com: Cut Onions Contamination

And also one of the myth's posted on "onions-usa"
The National Onion Association

Also on hoax or fact it has the exact story about the farmer and it's false
Left over, Cut onions become toxic - Facts Analysis | Health

It says onions create sulfuric acid. Crazy! But bacteria may like moisture but not acid. I think we're safe after all. The onions-usa says we can store them safely contained for up to 7 days after cutting in the refridgerator.

Considering that they are calling the flu a bacteria when its a virus its kind of unlikely and if the flu was found on the onions that because its airborne and will settle on anything so you know had they tested the table cloth it would have been positive too. Are they antimicrobial yeah I'm not going to look it up but if you can store it at room temp its probably got something that inhibits bacterial growth. Regarding potato salad it is totally the worst if you leave it out more than a couple of hours I would personally blame the potatoes for that because they are a great carb source normally protected by their skin----they are in fact so great at growing bacteria that in the olden days people used potato slices instead of agar plates. There is even a type of potato agar used today. In short they took a few things that might be fact and mixed them with a lot of bs leading to a poor conclusion.
