Some of them will precharge some thing to your debit card and then refund it if no damages ie like a security deposit but not all will even allow that.

My youngest daughter saves up her money and then goes to an expensive hotel for a weekend stay. She goes to the ones that are $200 or more a night. She books in advance and usually gets a really great deal. Normally she goes with a friend so they split the cost. The hotel always charges her card for more and then after she checks out they inspect the room. No damages occur so they credit her back for the over charge. She always uses her debit card. It works fine here in Dallas, Texas. But elsewhere may have different rules I don't know.

Yeah, the hotels I go to are usually over 200 dollars a night as well. Never had issues of not being able to use my debit card.

Just go to your bank and fill out paperwork to get one.....they will start you with a low limit and then move it up. For me I use them to prevent fraud because I order a lot of stuff online...the thing is if you can't control your spending you will end up in a really bad place so if that's the case seriously don't even think about getting one.

When that Target mess happened I had to get a new debit card because I had used it at two of our local Targets. It has the Visa logo on it and I always use my pin so that the charge will deduct immediately from my bank account. When using it as credit it takes a couple of days to post. If I use it as a debit which requires my pin it posts the next day. I check my account daily and have Chase bank alerts that notifies me if a charge has been made on my bank account. I don't trust those machines either and you always hear of people's information getting stolen. I try to use cash as much as possible.

So for the hotels...admittedly my debit card was only refused(even with visa logo) around ten years ago...apparently now the standard is not refusal but instead placing a hold on the cash including incidentals etc so you can't stiff them. I never tried it again after one didn't take it.

Alerts are great but if someone has your pin and wipes out your account you don't get refunded for that ever...pin based transactions are considered to be your fault and not the banks where credit card type transactions are insured.

Yeah my daughter stayed at a fancy hotel in downtown Dallas a few weeks ago and they charged her debit card forty dollars over the cost. She uses her debit card as credit so once it posts the original price is deducted and the extra is not charged. She loves exploring these fancy hotels.

Chase bank sent out paperwork saying that pin numbers, addresses, and names were all stolen from the Target scam. It said I needed to get a new card immediately so I did but also said that I would not be charged for anything that I didn't purchase pin or not. Luckily I didn't have any problems.

That sounds like fun! So for me it was during grad school where we were at a conference but even though it had credit function they wouldn't take that so I thought about going to an ATM but they would not take cash either...it had to be a credit card....luckily I had one I never used because I thought it was so much easier to have everything taken out of checking without paying another bill. So I always used it like a credit card but I could have been stranded across country with no way to pay for a hotel had I not had a credit card as well. That is why I was freaking out a little.

Does she use hotwire? You can get great deals on those four star hotels that way although you can't pick the exact hotel.

That's probably just for that one instance unless chase is way better than every other bank.

I would have freaked out too! Scary!

I think she uses a few websites. That might be one of them. I'm not sure. All I know is she said it gives her a list of what is available and she chooses the hotel.

You know in japan they believe in clean breaks...even in marriage....you literally never see the other person...the kids are given to whoever makes the most money and they don't see the other parent either. I don't how generalizable this is but it's based on one guy I knew from there a few years ago.

I think it's a little harsh but I can imagine it being effective....

That seems like it will hurt even more. I've became way too close to him and his family. They are like my family. I'll be losing family. Last thing I want is to lose family.

Yeah I don't know my best friend is still very close with her ex and it hurts her that he's chosen to be with someone else and she still loves him. She hasn't been able to move on ie she keeps choosing scammers off online dating sites etc and now her therapist has told her quite simply she is not ready to date period. So staying close comes with a cost. If you don't want him out of your life you're going to find another way to deal and the usual way is to find another guy you really like.

Oh safety is italicized because he was super afraid if anyone black for some reason....

No don't do that! Take it to the shelter. Research online and find a no kill shelter.

I think they have some in McKinney. If your cat has been a house cat all this time it would be dangerous to just let it go in the wild.
