Hello,

This fall, I am not studying in Cegep. I am a Quebecer and for now, I live at my father's house. For the winter, I have two choices. The first one is to move on to Quebec City and study in anothor house than my father's house and I would have $50 to $100 of spending money by month apart January wher I would have more spending money. The other choice is to study in my father's house and I would have $30 to $50 of spending money by month apart January where I would have more.

Here where comes the problem. It is that I have a so-so relationship with my father and I feared that that would harm me. The reason why our relationship is not always good is that my father is sometimes too involved in my decisions and he is blubbering quickly and it makes me feel bad.

For the Quebec City option, it is that it is far of my actual city and I think I am able of doing it, but is it okay to do it now or if I could wait to university before moving on? I have a Cegep in my actual city.

I need to be enlightened.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Write it on paper..the plusses and minuses........that way you can actually see which is the best option for you at this time. I think it does help to list things at times especially when its a hard decision and both are good

Good luck

Perseverance11,

What a dilema. Life can be so difficult at times. I'm glad you found PC because I'm sure there is someone here that understands what exactly you are talking about.

I know everyone here will be thinking about you as you try to work out this difficult decision.

Awaiting an outcome,

-Fleeing Bellocq

If you move to another house, you have to consider the fact the person(s) you're with may also make you uncomfortable, similar to your father. I'm not sure which part of Quebec you're in, however, unless living with your father is absolutely unbearable, then I'd say stay where you are for now. If you currently have or are about to soon have classes, then moving will be a major distraction you don't need. If you don't have classes until a couple of months, then it would be worthwhile into looking around for another place. I'm not sure what the cost of student housing is in Quebec but you should look around to see if you can afford a place, even if you split the cost with roommates.

@fleeingbellocq: Thanks for your words!
@Tsuki632: Thanks! Happy to see some francophone here!
@Oxidopamine: For now, I am in Beauce, and if I move on to Quebec, it would be in Ste-Foy. And my classes this winter would start on January 21. Is it too close? And I checked for some rooms and it would be okay for my budget.

Je ne suis pas francophone. J'habitais proche d'Ottawa quand j'etais jeune. Je n'ai pas parle' francais depuis presque 20ans.

Je comprends le francais beaucoup mieux que je le parle ou l'e'crit.

I'm no francophone. I lived close to Ottawa as a child. I haven't spoken French in about 20years. I understand it much better than I speak or write it.

Does the CEGEP in Quebec City have the program you want to study? There is lots of time before the winter semester to move if that's your choice. Do you have any friends or family other than your father who can help you decide?

Yes, the Cegep in Quebec City has the program that I want to study in.
The distance between Beauce and Quebec is about 100km.
Yes, I have some friends who can help me with my decision.
My decision was taken today during my appointment with my pdoc and the decision is to study in Quebec City and move on to Quebec City in January.

You have several months, so you should have enough time, HOWEVER, it all depends on the availability in the area. If you want to be in residence, then you have to check the university's deadlines as it likely won't be the same for each (would be great if the dates were the same though!) If you want to be in an apartment, keep in mind, the first few payments tend to be more expensive because people usually will buy some furniture purely for the apartments as opposed to transporting from their home. You also want to check the area for any public transport that can make it faster for you to get to campus from your apartment.

I am in Cegep right now, not university. And there is no residence for the Cegep that I want to go. It is not an appartment that I want to have, but a room in an appartment. For the public transport, I will take care of that in January.
