and I'm pretty nervous about it.
With my antisocial way I don't know how I will do. I am also applying for jobs because I just moved to a new area. I am on Lexapro for my anxiety attacks but I`m still so nervous,I just don't want to mess up. Any Tips on how to try getting passed my shyness and keeping calm? Thank you for your time. |

Deep breathing and positive self-talk help me a lot. No, I do not talk out loud. LOL I tell myself positive things over and over. For example, I can do this, I am smart, etc.

Hi friend,
That's very exciting! College gets easier the longer you are there, so don't set too high of an expectation for yourself. The first semester is always the hardest. I would say just to remember to get involved, and keep in mind that everyone else wants someone to come up and talk to them just as much as you want someone to come up and talk to you. College is a great time of life for a lot of people. It certainly has been for me. Good luck, my dear! You're gunna do awesome!

From my experience in college so far, a lot of people are actually antisocial or shy or awkward... so you won't be alone. Maybe this is a stereotype, but I think the antisocial and awkward folks tend to gravitate towards some fields more than others... So the number of antisocial people you meet will probably depend on your field of study. Nevertheless, you're not alone and I'm sure you'll do great!
P.S. If you have Orientation, do attend it because it will allow you to meet people in a more interactive environment. It helped me make some friends in first year even though I'm also quite antisocial. |

![]() ![]() i agree with what everyone said and if its hard to approach to anyone yet, you can take first days observing then take step by step, i do that when i start going to new place, of course college bigger and new stuff than school, but steps do help, i just observe then start greeting then try to get in group then stumbled on good one, im usually the one that's not sociable or like them but they dont mind having me with them ![]()

You might want to look into any sort of counseling/student support services might be available to you from your university as well. Best of luck!

Also look into the student disability office, every college has one, they can get you accommodations with a letter from your doctor stating the need for it like taking tests in a testing center, that's helping me. I have a lot of anxiety too among other problems and being able to get more time on tests and being able to take them in the testing center rather than the class makes me feel less pressured to get done fast and rush to get done.
Keep on top of your assignments, it's easy to fall behind. Study, do the best you can do and if you need help don't be afraid to ask your professor for it. Sometimes campuses have free tutoring available to students also, if yours does and you're struggling with any subject definitely take advantage of that. Show up everyday to every class unless you have an emergency or are very sick, trust me on this. I am only in my first semester but have missed a Lot of days, it's easy to just say screw it and stay home and get into that bad habit but it will negatively impact your grade. Good luck! You'll do great, think positively. A positive mindset definitely helps ![]()

probably not more shyer than I was(still kinda shy). When I started college last year, I really didn't talk to anyone, I tried to stay to myself, but people generally like people, so they are friendly and want to socialize. Depending on your professor, they may encourage group work, so take that time to introduce and get know people. Also when not in class and you have free time I'd say hang out in an area that generally has a lot of people, I know it's hard ,but you can do it. And people will try to conversate with you. Don't be nervous, their human just like you. You can do it!!
