One of the books I am working on now is "The Mindful Way through depression" which also comes with a CD The authors are Mark Williams, John Teasdale, Zindel Segal, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. I would also suggest ones dealing with CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy).

I also like A Mindful Way through depression. It's been the book used in a couple of groups I've attended.

Hi there! I don't know if you have found what you are looking for yet but these are two I read almost every day: The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook for Depression by William J Knauss and The 19 Best-Ever Depression Management Techniques by Margaret Wehrenberg.

An author that I have really enjoyed, as far as self-help goes, is Susan Spira. She has written three great books on finding happiness, "Happy Shorts", "The Happy Tips Book", and "One-Liners For Life," as well as some great children's books. My favorite book of hers, "The Happy Tips Book" Is quick and easy to read with not a lot of fluff. Just the bottom lines leading to greater joy and understanding.

Though this book is for anyone who struggles with a mental illness (and even for those who don't), not just depression, I recommend Mary Ellen Copeland's book "Wellness Recovery Action Plan". Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP®) You might find it slightly cheaper on amazon.com if money is an issue.

I read a book by Mary Ellen Copeland, it was a workbook on bipolar disorder and depression. I guess I didnt know it was a workbook, because I cant seem to remember to do those things. I guess I should try not to be lazy... I recently bought "The New Mood Therapy" by Dr David Burns. So far, it seems very good and logical. In fact, last time I read it I got mad and put the book down, because I knew he was describing me and habits are sooo hard to break

Dr. Burns' book has done more to give me practical help than any other secular book ever written. I highly recommend it.
Investigating the "Mindful Way" book. Never heard of it. Has my interest perked up. |
