Is it possible to make yourself want what you don't want? I have an exam with 105 terms I'm supposed to learn and I am not particularly interested in learning them at this late date. It's the last exam I'll take for my degree and I'm sure I'll pass. I haven't been interested in this course from the beginning but it was required.
I picture myself taking the exam and being "cavalier" about answering the portion with the terms and then picture my professor reading my answers and realizing I didn't put much effort into it, that I didn't "care." I don't like being perceived as not caring, want to not care without being thought of that way? LOL

LOL I think I understood what you said!
![]() It's like I tell my husband about his meds when he tells me he "doesn't care" whether he takes them or not. It's not a matter of WANTING, it's a matter of NECESSITY. ![]() ![]() I don't envy you, though. ![]()

what exactly is it that you don't want? is it to learn those terms? or term your education? I think maybe you are struggling a bit with then end of your studies, even though it is a great accomplishment to be proud of! Could it be that you are coming to 'terms' with the end of the educational process that can be so rewarding? ![]() ECHOES |

I think I didn't want the boredom of sitting my bottom in the chair and going through the terms one-by-one and all the confusion (now they're nicely all mixed up in my head :-) Confusion makes me feel like there's something wrong with me, that "they" wouldn't ask something too hard and that other people might not be as confused and reminds me it's my own fault; I put off working on them for too long. I feel like when you run out of gas because you "forgot" to fill the tank and thus lose the race? I'll be working on the exam in a few hours and wishing I could remember an idiot term to put in one of the essays or something :-)
I guess I'm railing against procrastination and not liking the course in the first place but it's being required (hate being told what to do) and my mess of mixed feelings (love the professor, he's fun/helpful).

hmmm...
I once read someone's post about anxiety that said they since their symptoms. lol Maybe instead of sitting in your chair you could dance with your material and sing your terms to learn them? Or, if shout them out to release the tension? (Close the windows first... ![]() ![]() ECHOES |

For me, I ask God to change my "want to." To answer you directly, yes, you can change your desire and will to conform to what you know is best. There are a variety of ways to go over this material without having to sit down and study. (I'm sure you know this...but...) You can record them with a tape recorder and then play it back over and over in the car wherever... you can write them on 3 x 5 cards and use them as flash cards, pulling them from the deck once you've learned them.
One trick I learned about memorizing.. if you are a visual person this works really well. Read what you want to remember (each term...) then look up to the left (don't move your head, just your eyes) and "SEE" your information there. When you are testing, and need an answer that isn't readily in your mind, look up to the left to see it. This honestly works. I thought it was a fluke and a joke. The day I heard about it I was on my way to a test site for cadets, to present. While there, I found out I could take a SAR update (search and rescue) that had just become available and one I needed. Everyone knew I hadn't studied, and someone gave me the manual to review. I took it outside, scanned through it, placing items to "see" up and left.... and walked back in and scored the highest for that day! I really didn't "know" the information, but it was available to me for the test. I have used it many times since. Good wishes!
