Hi, I just spent the last 2 hours on hold( disconnected me 2 xs) with the suicide hotline because I want to hurt myself. This 3rd time calling I've been the next person to be helped for about 45 min. Seriously after holding for so long then they have you do a questionaire before chatting( excuse me, before booted you out of there chat room. Now I know why people don't seek help or end up offing themselves. I feel worst than I did several hours ago. I don't know what else to do. I'm struggling here. Nothing else is working

I am sorry this happened.

I usually suggest:

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
Phone: 1-800-273-8255
Online: www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org
Available 24/7

I hope this is a good resource.

I am sorry you are distressed. Hopefully, you have learned some coping skills and can keep yourself safe. If not, go to the nearest ER.

Please keep yourself safe.

I'm sorry you had this disturbing experience. When I read your post I presumed you were referring to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. However perhaps that was not the case? If not, I would also recommend the Hotline number Wild Coyote gave you. Otherwise, here are links to PsychCentral's lists of various hotline numbers:

https://psychcentral.com/lib/common-...phone-numbers/

https://psychcentral.com/lib/telepho...nd-help-lines/

Another suggestion is simply to write, here on PC, about what's going on with you. I know it's not the immediate help you would hope to get from a hotline. But sometimes just the act of writing about what's going on can, in-&-of itself, provide some relief. And then, of course, there's the possibility of just going to the ER at your local hospital if you feel you are in immanent danger. I know these aren't great answers to your present situation. I wish I had something more creative to suggest.

Here's a link to a listing of suicide prevention resources in California in case any of this is helpful:

I wish you well. Please take care.

There have been a few threads on PC about how terrible some of the hotlines can be and how badly their operators have treated different PC members. I have also heard stories about people who say the hotlines helped them.

My experience was like yours, very negative. Makes me feel like it isn't much of a resource. What I found is that they didn't feel like listening to me at all, they jumped straight to telling me to go to a hospital, which was not what I wanted because I couldn't afford, in numerous ways, to be hospitalized at that point. I needed help staying out of the hospital, and the operator just didn't care. He didn't even care to listen to me. He clearly had no training other than reciting a script.

So I will never bother calling again, as I don't think there's any usefulness to it.

But I've heard mixed reviews, some good, some bad.

I'm sorry your experience was bad. Know that we care. Post on here. Come into chat. We are here for you.

Thank you everyone! I made it through the night by seeking out a local community crisis center and have a appt to see my T Weds. I don't recommend to ANYONE the National Suicide Hotline, what a joke. My Ptsd symptoms were out of control yesterday and not even my tool kit items were working ( first time in awhile that this occurred). I reached out on here and am so grateful you all reached back. That means so much to me because during this healing process I've lost everyone because they just don't understand. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

I'm sorry. I've heard the hotlines get referral fees for sending callers to certain rehabs and hospitals. So many people trying to make money on the down and out!

I'd call reputable nonprofits or women's shelters to find a reliable crisis line. No need to be an issue of rape or DV to call. They are resourceful.

Glad you found a local one and are getting help.

Take care.

That's a great resource. Thanks. I didn't think about the referral payments. How sleazy.
