I haven't been on in a long while...sorry, haven't gotten a chance to get on.
I have a doctor's appointment in a month. I haven't told anyone about my SI, though I haven't done anything seriously in a while...but the scars are still there, sitting conspicuously on my thigh, which, when seen, will definitely provoke suspicious questions from my doctor...I don't know where I'm going with this...I guess I'm just worried...Well, dreading, more likely, knowing that i'll have to finally confess what I've been doing...i think i'm just looking for support...are doctors required to tell your parents about SI?

They only have to tell anyone, parents included, if they consider you a threat to yourself or others. SI'ing isn't a threat to yourself in the way the law intends it -- as in, you aren't going to off yourself any second now.
I'd think a doctor would respect a simple "I don't want to talk about it." Good luck. |

I don't know if the physician must tell your parents. It might depend on your age. Most states say you're an adult at 18, others 19 and still a few say 21. You could ask one of the therapists on this Web site under the "Ask" tab. I hope this helps you.
