I was just wondering if anyone had any alternatives to getting some sleep. I've tried pretty much every sleeping medicine they have.

Sex

yes I am serious. one thing sex is really good for is releasing tension, pent up energy and sometimes calories and it can be done alone or with a partner.

afterwards I am calm, drifting, relaxed feeling. works every time for me and my partner both.

Yes, sex can help and so can exercise during the day. If you're not doing much during the day (but sitting on the computer like me :-) your body has to move! You have to balance everything so try outside for a few minutes and do some semi-heavy chores or use your head to study hard/read, etc. I read nonfiction/biographies before bed and that often makes me sleepy.

Lol. I have tried both. But thank you though. Sex just doesn't do me like it used to. And I do my wii fit everyday along with the yoga on it and everything else it has on there. And I clean the house. And I'm always done with that stuff way before bedtime. And I also love to read myself. So I'm usually on here most of the night so I'm not so bored.

You don't nap or anything do you? I wouldn't allow myself to sleep during the day, that will surely mess up the night. I use to wake in the night (are you on any meds, they can mess with sleep; I "fixed" some of my sleep problems by changing when I took my meds) and just stay in bed rather than get up (it's cold and dark downstairs, LOL) and eventually I fall back to sleep.

No I don't take naps. I take the kids to school then I come home and do stuff around the house and do my wii. And I'm not on any meds right now. I haven't been able to afford to go back to the doctor. Yeah lol I know how that is. Its cold in my livingroom.

Hi, i'm new here, it is my first post.
Why don't you try to drink a nice cup of tea with honey before you go to sleep, or you can take some valdispert, too. maybe your bed isn't good enough for you, get comfortable and really warm. and don't watch tv! hope it works for you.

When sleeping pills dont work no more, then I sort of quote Scarlett O'Hara and think "I ll sleep another day"
Sex is also cool but its not my priority for the moment. Too many things to do do and too many uninterresting people

Thank yall. I will try the tea . The only thing about that is I've been told to cut out all caffiene. And where can I get that medicine at? And it could possibly be my bed. It is comfortable but it is about 8 years old. It may be time to change beds. Lol. And I just either lay on the couch or in the bed with no TV.

And yea I keep telling myself pretty much that same thing. It just doesn't work out very well for me. Lol. I'm going out of my mind I think.

about valeriana, the tea I told you about:

(valdispert is a medicine made from that plant)

"Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
Valerian is relaxing and sleep inducing, relieves spasms, calms the digestion, and lowers blood pressure. It is useful for severe insomnia and insomnia accompanied by pain, cramps, intestinal pain, wind, menstrual pain, tension, anxiety, and over-excitability.
Valerian can bring on a restful sleep without morning sleepiness or other side effects or dangers of addiction. Studies have shown that valerian has an extremely beneficial effect among poor or irregular sleepers (particularly women), and in people having difficulty falling asleep.
Valerian has been widely used in folk medicine as a sedative and antihypertensive. Clinical studies have substantiated valerian's ability to improve sleep quality and relieve insomnia. In one study, valerian showed a significant effect compared to the placebo, with forty-four percent reporting perfect sleep and eighty-nine percent reporting improved sleep. In another double-blind study of insomniacs, twenty subjects received either a combination of valerian root extract (160 mg) and Melissa officinalis extract (80 mg), benzodiazepine (triazolam 0.125 mg), or a placebo. In the insomniac group, the valerian/melissa preparation showed an effect comparable to that of the benzodiazepines, as well as an ability to increase deep-sleep stages 3 and 4. The valerian/melissa preparation did not, however, cause any daytime sleepiness, and there was no evidence of diminished concentration or impairment of physical performance.
How To Use: Brew valerian tea (recipe below.) or take about 20 drops of tincture in water at bedtime; experiment to find the dosage that suits you best.
Valerian, like any sleeping aid, acts as a central nervous system depressant and should not be used every night. Take the tea about forty-five minutes before bedtime.

Recipe:

Valerian Tea
Prepare valerian tea in the morning by adding 2 tsp. of valerian root to 2 cups of warm water. Let stand until the evening. Strain and warm. Add 1 tsp. of honey and drink 1 cup after dinner and 1 cup before going to bed.
Another Valerian Herbal Tea Recipe
Mix 2 tsp. each of valerian root, hops, lemon balm, lavender and camomile. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 tsp. of this mixture and drink a cup in the morning and one in the evening."

..

Hope it works for you!

angie, why can't you fall asleep? Are you not tired? Are you worried about something and your anxious thoughts won't let you relax? For a few years I was very anxious and couldn't bear to go to bed and lie there unable to sleep. So I would stay up very late until I couldn't keep my eyes open, then go to bed. I often got only a few hours sleep but at least I didn't lie there awake. I hate that. The main solution for me was to work on solving the problems in my life so I wouldn't lie there awake thinking about them. Don't know if that is how it is for you at all. If it is just that you are not tired, I would recommend getting exercise, cutting out all caffeine from your diet, and not sleeping in in the morning.

I like sunrises suggestions, and on top of the cutting out caffeine, increasing exercise, avoiding naps, increasing relaxation, dont toss and turn - get up and do somehting else, banana and or milky drink b4 bed, wank b4 sleeptime, bed time ritual like cleaning teeth and get changed into pajamas, watch a calming upbeat tv show or book b4 sleep, imagining nice scenes in detail while falling asleep... decrease stimulation as bedtime approaches, deep breaths into your belly - inhale for 3 secs and hold 2secs then exhale 3 secs hold 2 secs repeat while focusing attention on breathing and relaxing body with each breath....less alcohol as it affects sleep....
there are many tricks... work with some for a few nights and if they dont work try others

i hope you enjoy trying some of these ways to get to sleep

Something that helped me in the past was playing that ridiculous car game from when I was a kid, the one where you start by saying, "I'm going on a trip and in my suitcase I will bring", and you start with the letter A and say _______, then as you move down the alphabet the list gets longer and longer and you have to try to remember as you go. I used when I was extremely pregnant and so uncomfortable and irritable, not to mention anxious to NOT be pregnant anymore, lol. I never made it past about K.

Example :

On my trip I am bringing an apple. On my trip I am bringing an apple and a bear.
On my trip I am bringing an apple, a bear and a cat. etc.

Using something harder than apple, bear and cat uses up more of your brain which tends to help the process along. Like aardvark, beluga and caterpillar for example.

I'm not sure exactly why I can't sleep. I'm exhausted! Lol. I'm always worried about something. I have severe depression along with panic disorder. And yea I pretty much just lay here wide awake. I've cut out caffiene and everything else I can think of thinking that might have something to do with it but I can't figure out what's going on.

Lol I always have my phone right by me too. That's how I'm one here. And usually when I try the music thing I'm in the living room. I put on classical cause I've heard that relaxes you and is supposed to put you to sleep. It does relax me but then I get bored. Lol
