Hey everyone,
I don't know what to do about my sleep. I sleep maybe a total of 2 hours a day/night and that's it. I am up all night long and then when the sun comes up I am really tired but it's time to start the day. Sometimes I have to take a small nap during the day, and that's when I get my sleep. I have been on so many sleeping pills, and now am on nothing because my insurance won't cover the Rozerem he just gave me plus I really don't think anything else is going to work right now. I am begining to hallucinate and that has never happened to me. I don't hear things, but see things, and it's really bothering me. It has just started on the 3rd night that I didn't get any sleep. I am not even tired at night. I take my meds at a decent time, try and lay down and if I do sleep it's maybe for 30min. I listen to soothing music before I go to bed. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me? Sorry if there are words repeated because am seeing double right now, but that may have something to do with the Menier's disease that I have, anyways totally different subject... ![]() Thanks for listening and any advise would be appreciated...hugs and thanks again, Jen

Hello Jen I probably am not qualified to help. But when I saw menieres
it struck a chord. I have trouble sleeping because of the noises in my head when I lay my head on the pillow especially. It sounds like engine noises.Sometimes like seagulls.I try to imagine the sound as part of a comforting scene...maybe like the beach or a babbling brook..sort of a relaxation thing.......recently I was learning about helping patients with sleep in a nursing home...and the info said no naps during the day.. low lighting...exercise and activity during the day...and plenty of routine especially at night...doing the same things each night... but maybe this info is only for the elderly....so I hope I haven't annoyed you.. kind thoughts....Jjulia

Julia,
Thanks so much. I have been wondering if the Meneir's is causing my lack of sleep especially lately. My head feels like it is ready to explode. I understand the routine thing, and I totally know how important that is. I just can't keep my eyes open once I have been up for more than 20 hours, and then I sleep for maybe 2 and then am up for another 20 hours. I don't know, will take into consideration your comments and they are so much appreciated. Thanks again, Jen

I have noticed it really since last Friday, so probably about a week or even more. But I have always had some sort of insominia. it usually has worked itself out by now, but it has been a long time since it has been at this point. A couple years ago i was working a lot and living on my own and sleeping maybe 45-1 hour a night. And then there were days where I would crash for hours, that hasn't happened yet. When i see my pdoc next I will mention it to him. Just trying to fix this problem without the use of pills. I haven't really found a sleeping pill that works, and now that am on a MAOI it's very limited as to what I can handle.
Thanks, Jen

OK, I can't take it anymore. I slept 2 hours and then was up again all night. I fell asleep finally again around 7 this morning but it's only 8 am now. I don't know how to handle this anymore. i tried even listening to my music, which i couldn't stand because my head feels so much pressure from the Meneir's. but that's not what started all this, and I wish I knew what started all this.
I have been trying to think if I am bothered by something, and i really can't think of anything that am really stressed about. Things seem to be going fairly well. There are the daily stresses of life, but I am not letting them get to me. I am trying to keep busy during the day. IDK, maybe it's just one of those things that am going to have to live with for a while. I hope it's just for a little while longer though. it's begining to be nice out again and I don't want to be tried all day and not want to get out and do things. I am wondering if there is anyone else going thorugh or have gone through the same things? Any ideas? I am going to have to talk to my Pdoc about this, but haven't made an appointment to see him yet. The hallucinating is getting worse, but at least I know I am hallucinating at times. Anyways, am rambling and babbling again. There are people out there with much bigger problems than mine. Thanks for listening. Hugs to you all, Jen

Hey everyone,
I am sorry I keep posting. but am getting really desperate here. I know i have to make an appointment with the pdoc, so am going to do that Monday and hopefully be able to get in to see him sooner than later. Is it possible for you or your body/mind to be too tired to sleep? I think I am going to explore the possiblilities of why I don't sleep at night, but when it's daytime or any other time I find it ok to lay down and be able to close my eys. Yeah I can only sleep for about 30 min. when I do, but I think there is something about night time that scares me, or maybe am just reading way too much into my situation right now. Almost like there has to be something wrong because am not sleeping...do you know what I mean? Also if he does suggest another sleeping pill I don't know if I want to be on one anymore? Does that make any sense either? I mean I have been on different kinds since the age of 17 and now is the first time I have been off one in a long time. Usually it was trazadone and that was fine until they switced me to a MAOI and now I get sick when I take one of those. Another question (sorry) does anyone know of any relaxing cds out there? I have been looking at the library and there are so many to choose from. Does anyone have a favorite? Ok so now am rambling and probably talking to myself...sorry again. Just been a long 2 weeks. Jen

Hi Jen,
Post all you want. We want to help. I know its always been said never eat late at night but I found that if I eat a substantial meal close to bedtime in combination with my sleeping pill that I am able to sleep. I dont know if youve ever noticed how tired you feel after lunch when you are at work. I believe it is because much of your blood is needed to help the stomach with digestion. Lay on your left side also when you sleep as this helps empty the stomach and will prevent gastric reflux since you are laying down after a big meal. I hope this helps. ![]() |

Ruffy,
Thanks so much for the advise. I have tried the meal thing, and yes it does make you tired. I was again only able to sleep for about 30 min though. I haven't had caffeine in over 2 years because of my sleeping problem and that's when things started to get better, but now I don't know what to do. i have some extra temazepam from when i was on that a while back, i guess i could try that tonight or something. I am getting to the point where I want to go out and buy Tylenol PM. I used to take that stuff by the handfulls just to sleep and that seemed to help for a while, till one day i took the whole bottle, but that's another story. I am not looking to od here, just to sleep. It's just getting pretty frusterating when I live with 2 other people who can go to sleep and sleep till 11 am or something, or whatever the case may be. I don't know if I mentioned this before but am starting to hallucinate a little at night. It's nothing too serious and I know it's happening, it's just weird and scary. I haven't told anyone about the hallucinations because i know they will go away once i can get more than a couple hours sleep in a couple days. I also, just for anyone's info, had a sleep study about 2 years ago when was having about the same kinda problem. I had the best nights sleep there that I had had in about 1 year....weird huh? They said there were no problems and that I didn't have sleep apnea. I guess am just reaching for straws here, and getting so frusterated, but hopefully something will happen soon. Anyways, sorry it's so long....and thanks again hugs, Jen

Jen,
Im no expert but youre probably hallucinating because of the lack of sleep. Be careful with that Tylenol Pm...it contains acetaminophen which can actually cause hallucinations if you reach a toxic level. My grandmother wound up seeing people holding flags in her living room as a result of too much. Is there anyway the Doc. can increase the dose of your sleeping pill? Stupid question, Im sure you have already tried that but thought I'd ask anyway. ![]() |

If you are going to try tylenol pm, get just the straight benadryl, which is what tylenol pm using as a sleep agent. I, too, have hallucinated and become delusional from lack of sleep. It can be more dangerous than sleeping agents, providing you use them properly.

Hey,
Thanks again for the advise. I am no longer on a sleeping pill. I was on Rozerem but first it didn't agree with me and then I tried it one more night and it worked for 30 min...kinda like what has been going on. Plus the insurance company won't pay for another prescription, which is fine since it doesn't work. I have been on pretty much every sleeping pill that I know about. So, kinda at a loss when it comes to that. Now that i have been thinking about it, I went into the hospital in the middle of January this year and that's kinda when the sleeping problems started. I remember asking for a shot or something to just put me out. That's the way am getting again. The doctor put me on the temazepam there, but it no longer works and it's at the highest dose that it can go to he thinks. I have valium for the Meneir's disease that I have, and if I take 5mg sometimes that puts me out for a couple hours, so maybe am going to have to take that sometimes just to get at least 2 hours of sleep. I don't know what to do right now. Just want to thank you guys for your advise and support. No one notices the hallucinations but me right now at least. And they have just started within the last 3 days. Last night they weren't so bad as I try and remember that if that happens it's not real, but it's getting harder and harder. Thanks again, Hugs to all, Jen
