I've had insomnia so long now I feel like my brain is going to stop working. I do the sleep hygiene, any other tips on how to live with this?

I'm sorry you have not been able to sleep. It definitely effects your day. I take power naps in the day and sleep meds at night. The doc is giving me Trazadone. I also like to drink some green tea before bed.

I hope this helps a little.
Sincerely,

Piraeus

I do take trazodone & Xanax, they help a bit, but I still can't sleep like I used to.

I've battled insomnia for a long, long time. Other than meds?

Other than watching my diet and exercise, not having caffeine, after a certain point in the day and making sure I get some sunlight, fresh air into my system?

I don't know. Trying to figure out what it is that keeps me up, or what it is that wakes me up in the middle of the night, so I can't go to sleep(those are usually dreams)...usually helps.

I do find, the Xanax is helping me, to feel more tired at night and ready to fall asleep. And I've still got my Ambien, on top of it all, for when I need it.

Stress in life, doesn't help insomnia. What does your doctor say, about yours?

I'm having that very same problem as we speak. Can't sleep at all. Mind keeps racing with memories from my past. Just can't seem to get the **it out of my head! Ugh!

We'll see, I've got an appointment with a new pdoc this morning. I know that last time I had it, it was a symptom of depression, so that may be the case again. Also I'm getting into middle age so my body is probably changing. Work stress doesn't help either!

NJBlues do you do cardio? Run/Cycle? Nothing better then becoming physically exhausted to help you fall asleep.

Not a big exercise fan but I force myself to take walks until my heart rate goes up. I try to get 1 in every day, though its hard with a full-time job & a family. But I know what you're saying is true.
