Hey guys

Well I'm hanging in there! Today has been really hard. I've recently started with a new psych and today she helped me uncover an aspect of my childhood I'd never even looked at before.

Damn I am hanging out for a smoke!! What do you guys who've given up do now when you're feeling like ****?

Keep in mind a craving actually doesn't last that long. I think one suggestion given to me was to drink a glass of water? Also, vary your routine. Reward yourself with at least some of the money you saved not buying smokes!
Thanks for this!

Congratulations on hanging in there. It is not easy but it is worth. Been there.

Try drinking more low cal drinks or water if you can. Also I have had a craving for salty stuff so in addition to veggies I got some pretzels. I am also now chewing on a straw. It keeps my mouth with something shaped like a cigarette and it is bright colored so kinda humorous.

Chewing gum helps me the most. It's something I can do with my mouth that doesn't require eating or drinking nonstop, although those are options as well. Also...try to keep busy until the worst of it is over. Once the cravings calm down and your body adjusts it'll be easier to relax and slow things down. This is what works for me.

I know, I quit a few weeks ago, for 10 days.... was so proud of myself, till something really upset me, then I said, just one pack, well I'm three packs later and regretting starting again. They say every time you quit it gets easier, I've quit so many
times in my life and it gets harder for me. One thing I did to quit, and may sound weird, but keep telling yourself you hate the smell of smoke, and if you dirink coffee with it, give that up too. I usually had a drink of something with the smoke, it disguises the taste of the cig, so don't have anything with the cig, really taste how awful it is... hope you hang in there!

Thanks heaps! I haven't given in yet...but the what to do when upset that's the hard part isn't it! Even though I've read all about what's actually happening the fact is my brain absolutely believes having a smoke is going to ease my pain. Because I believe it it works.. How do you change and replace that belief?

Go for endorphins! A brisk walk, jumping up and down, some arm circles or weights if you have some ( empty milk jugs with some water make good weights). Just generate some energy to counteract the negative. Hang in there, you can do this!

I'm not sure who would say it gets easier each time you quit. With me, it got much harder. I would have probably started again by now if I didn't remember the difficult struggle I had the last time I quit.
