I'm not sure there are any. Kudos to you for being suspicious. Self help books are one of the biggest money making schemes around. Be very wary of any books written by proponents of the new "prosperity" religions.... Joel Osteen, Joyce Myer, etc. and pop psychologists.
Thanks for this!

If I had a guaranteed, easy method I would write a book
Don't be afraid of failure. Try starting small and build on your successes. Nothing is better for confidence than success.

Stephen Covey - How to win friends and influence people, Seven good habits for teens. Free on web. I wouldn't avoid the above mentioned named. Joyce Meyer has many readily available books. And if you are a woman, she has one called the confident woman.

The self help industry is fascinating for me. I'll read the books and it appears as though there is valuable information in them. I'm not sure how many people have improved their lives as a result though.

Still worth it in my opinion.

I am a 24 man, and I read how to win friends and influence people.
It didn't help, it's mostly stories.

Is ultimate secret of total self confidence book a good one ?

Books that I have read are "What's holding you back?" by Sam Horn, "The Self-Esteem Workbook" by Glenn R. Schiraldi. I have also done a lot of meditation.

I can appreciate people saying "The Bible" for spirituality reasons....but it's not really a book for boosting confidence
Thanks for this!

The book that really helped me was called "The Self Esteem Workbook" by Glenn Schiraldi.

It is a great resource for developing overall self-esteem: it is action-based and requires you to think and apply the material. I liked this better than any other book I've read on the subject, including Branden's work.

Also, a new book that I picked up called "The Tools" by Phil Stutz is great for confidence in moments of uncertainty. He uses mental exercises to move you into confident action.

I would say to start with the workbook and work your way through it slowly. It really helps develop the underlying beliefs necessary for confidence and self-esteem while eradicating any negative distortions that may be holding you back.

Best,

OPHW

I like reading brain science books (how your brain works). Currently I'm reading two good ones:

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do In Life and Business, by Charles Duhigg and, What Makes Your Brain Happy and Why You Should Do the Opposite, by David DiSalvo.

I do not see any spirituality in the Bible, but do see it as a collection of stories about some pretty interesting people, and as such, it can boost confidence.

For instance, I personally identify with Rachel (it so happened during my adolescence - I did not mean to start identifying with Rachel, but I read a poem about the biblical story of Rachel, Jacob, et al., and the poem exerted some kind of a powerful influence on me, so I started identifying with Rachel).

So... I am glad that Rachel overcomes difficulties and engages in creative problem solving as she goes through her life.

Not a sissy, clearly (no pun intended since part of the whole problem was her status as the younger sister ).

So, I am glad - she is a worthwhile character to identify with. Works well towards using the Bible as a confidence boosting tool.

I think for me the best confidence builder is to just feel what I am feeling. I have read self-help since late teens.

I respectfully disagree. This book has changed my outlook on myself, others, the world, etc.
