So, I am a single 30 year old female who is a virgin. I do sexually please myself however. I was ashamed at first, but T told me it was perfectly normal for a single person my age.

Anyways, I masturbated for hours last night (not inside my vagina, but on the outside of it, the clit and lips). It felt so good, I didn't want to stop...eventually I did after giving up that I would reach orgasm.

This moring, I have sharp pains in my clit and vaginal lips. It feels like someone is poking them with a needle while setting them on fire. It's a mixture between pain and burning.

I think I may have just overstimulated it last night, but I don't know. If it doesn't go away sometime today, I think it may be time to look through my insurance providers and find an ob-gyn to go to. The thought of going to a dr. I have never met before and letting them examine down there scares me.

I probably need to find one anyways as I have only have 1 pelvic exam/pap smear in my life. I never got my first one till I have a stable job teaching in another county than I am in now and got insurance. Back then, I just called a group that was accepting new patients and they assigned me to one of their drs. I had never met him and let him poke and probe "down there", but that was just for something routine.

After that year, I moved back to the town where I grew up and did not have a benefits eligible job for the first 2 years (took all short term positions). I finally landed a job that I could get benefits with in 2010, though I had to wait the 90 days or whatever so I didn't get them until 2011. I never bothered finding a new ob-gyn because I didn't see the point as I felt fine. I know, I know...bad thinking.

But, now that I am in "pain", I am thinking that I really do need to find one. I am just a little scared at what he will want to do for this issue. If it was just routine/preventive things, I would be fine as I would know what to expect. But the unknown is killing me.

Does anyone have any advice?

Maybe an off the wall question, but does it hurt more when you go to the bathroom? I had symptoms like this looooong ago and it turned out I had a bladder infection. Maybe after touching yourself for such an extended period of time (nothing wrong with that!), you introduced some bacteria into the tube connected to your bladder.

You will have to bite the bullet and go to the doctor. I think it'd be fine to wait a day and see if things get better. If not, then go.
Thanks for this!

No, it does not hurt more when I go to the bathroom. It just hurts on it's own and really hurts if something touches it (clothes, toilet paper, whatever).

sounds like it could just be an irritated skin issue. is the pain similar to a brush burn? I've overdone it before and nothing really helped except trying to have no contact on the irritated area for a while. for a day I hung around with my legs spread wide
I don't know if there is anything topical you can use. that skin is sooo sensitive I was worried about trying anything. so I opted for just air circulation and it felt better the next day.
did you use any lube?
Thanks for this!

It does sound like you've irritated sensitive skin.

It doesn't hurt to go to regular check ups, regardless of sexual history. They can prescan other issues, non activity related. Such as cancers and cysts, etc.

Sexual activity isn't the only reason to see a ob/gyn.

I don't know what a brush burn feels like, so I can't answer that. The only way I can describe it is just sitting here is is a mix between the fire of a candle burning me and having a sewing needle stabbed in my privates. If I touch it accidently (i.e. wiping after going to the bathroom, I get peircing pain.

No, I did not use any lube.

Having underwear on touching it even hurt, so I have been sitting around all morning naked from my waist down.

sorry you're in pain.
the reason I asked about lube is because I found out the hard way that I can only use plain old ky. all the scented and flavored kinds irritate me terribly.
also, even though there's no penetration, a lube will still help. it's like a protective barrier over your skin so there is less friction directly on it.
Thanks for this!

Hopefully itn will stop hurting by tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If not, I hope I can find someone who can fit me in tomorrow as a "new patient". It's not like I need routine/preventitive care, which could "wait". I am having problems I need addressed, though I am sure if I can get in for this pain tomorrow, they will probably do a pap while I am there. That part doesn't scare me. Having to let him touch me to do an external exam down there when I get piercing pains when barely touched right now scares me.

Well...things are a little better, but also a little worse. I got sexually frustrated this afternoon, so since it was too painful to masteurbate, I decided to stick ice cubes up my vagina (not large square ones from an ice cube tray, narrow pieces from an automatic ice maker...the pefect size just to slide in).

Sure it was cold, but it distracted me from the burning sensation, I was having. As well, the freestanding burning/having a needle stabbed in me feeling is gone. Though if I accidently touch the clit or around the clit I still get a piercing pain.

While the ice did alleviate some of the problems, I also think it made new problems because ever since I did that, I have been having cramps. Why am I so stupid?

Guess, I am going to have to face my fears and try to getin with someone tomorrow. Don't know if that will be possible as I am not an "established" patient anywhere, but hopefully someone can squeeze me in since this is not normal.

I guess I could always go to the hospital, but my copay for that is $250 plus 20% of the total cost of whatever procedures they perform and I do not have that type of money. A specialist visit for "moderate" problems is only $45. A preventive visit is free, but I don't think mine would be considered that since I am going in because I am having pain.

This sucks.

They may squeeze you in, as routine? Can always find out. Ice cubes, reminds me, of something erotic that can be done with a partner. Same thing, just, it's something that can be enjoyed with a man. Not to get off topic
Maybe by tomorrow, you'll stop hurting. A few hours, is an awfully long time to try. Are you on any ssri's?

This is why i use the monistat external cream (they sometimes give you a little tube in the package) for private sessions. It seems anti-cootie to me. And soothing.

Ssris seem to have that side effect on women. Of course, it's double edged, since meds help in other aspects.

Well I woke up several times last night in pain. I am now having severe cramps worse than my usual menstral cramps.

Talked to my mom last night, she said she thought it sounded like a UTI and that I should go to urgent care today. I questioned it being a UTI because it does not hurt when I pee. And would a UTI have cramps? I didn't tell her it happened after masterbating, she would have lectured me that I was sinning. I just don't know that urgent care would be able to help me, I would hate to go there first and pay for a visit only to be told to go to a specialist because they do not know what it wrong.

But what are my chances at getting into a gyn same day that I call when I am a new patient? I am worried. I could almost kick myself now that I never had a regular doctor since I am been on my own, so there is no one to call when stuff like this happens. Maybe this will cause me to be more proactive in the future.

I checked my insurance website there are 7 ob-gyns in my area accepting new patients (6 male, 1 female). I am not comfortable with female doctors for some reason unknown to me, I just would rather see a male. I guess it goes to my childhood and that fact that all the female doctors I had were not very gentle and had poor bedside manner. Most of the offices open at 8, so I will call then. It's only 2 numbers to call as most of them are in the same building as partners. I could care less about who to choose right now, I will take whoever can fit me in...I just want some relief.

I get what you mean about a not so gentle past with a female dr. When I first decided to go on BC. I wanted to hide it from my parents. My friend told me about planned parenthood and walked with me over there. Damn she manhandled me. Grrr. I've had one other female gyn since, two years ago, she was great, but no longer practices, there(or maybe anywhere, dunno).
Uti could be, cramping is a sign of infection. You may not need to explain your story. Hope you find a place

Damn it...guess my insurance online directory has bad numbers. Just called the one that opens at 8 and it was a number to a cardiologist clinic. WTF?!? Why can't insurance keep their crap updated?

Hopefully the one that opens at 8:30 is the correct number.

Squirrel, I'm being treated for a UTI. I have never had pain on urination. Different people have different symptoms. Hopefully, if you feel more comfortable with a female doctor you'll be able to request one.
Thanks for this!

S h i t. After sitting on hold waiting for somone for 30 minutes at the place that opened at 8:30, I am told they are shorthanded because of the holidays and don't have anything available until mid-January. I said no thanks I would try somewhere else.

I want to get out of this pain. Why didn't I keep regular checkups, so I could get in easier later?

Back to the insurance site to try the ones they claim are not taking new patients...they could be wrong if they had the wrong phone number for a couple of them. If I don't find something by about 10:30, I guess I will just try going to urgent care, even though I don't think there is much they can do unless it is a UTI.

I hate this situation.

Ugh! No gyn appointments available anytime soon. Guess I am going to urgent care and seeing what they can do. Maybe it is just a UTI and they can help...I just want relief. I would go to the ER, but that is too expensive even with imy insurance.

I assume if urgent care wants to test for a UTI, I will have to pee in a cup. Now to drink a lot before I go, so I will have a full bladder.

Well, I confirmed today that I hate seeing nurse practioners rather than doctors. Usually the urgent care I go to has a dr there, but today it was an ARNP. I also confirmed that I hate women health care providers.

Here's what happened.

I ended up having a small UTI. Then she freaked because the test also showed keytones and protien in my urine, which meant I was borderline diabetic and that I needed to stop taking al my meds beacause all of them make blood sugar high. I know one of them has that possibility (the AP), but I will risk that chance if it means not having psychotic symptoms. To tell me they all raise blood sugar and that I needed to get off them was not appropriate.

She asks when the last time I had blood work done was. I told her 2008. Then she asks who my PCP is, so she can send the information from today to them when I go for follow-up. I tell her I don't have one. She freaks again and asks how I am getting my medication then. I tell her a psychiatrist. She then tells me if you are on long-term medication, you should be getting bloodwork done every 6 months. And that my psychiatrist is a horrible doctor if he is not monitoring what the medicaton is doing to me.

WTH?!? That just flat out pissed me off. She is only an ARNP at a walk-in clinic...who is she to question my psychiatrist.

I don't have blood work for psyche meds. I know certain meds have a.bp check. Certain neurological meds require bloodwork, such as interfurons, but a horrible dr.?

I do have blood drawn for annual gp physicals, sugars, anemia, cholesterol, et Al, but psyche meds?
