No acne is not actually in my toosh, I was just kind of ranting. I was never a person to care too much about what people thought about my appearence but I do get just a little down when my face fails me. Ahh Im sure a lot of people get frustrated when you get those ugly cant cover up acne spots that bug you until they are finally gone.... (just my rant of the day)

A good Friday to you!

Zits are a pain-I only get them in my moontime-one month I had a HUGE one in the middle of my right(face) cheek and I thought "Thanks a lot!" I'm thankful I only get one!

I am a shallow person who cares very much about my appearance, lol, and I get very annoyed when my face breaks out. Since I am on Lithium, I have been having problems, particularly around the area of my chin. I tried ProActiv and that worked well except for the fact that it is expensive, so I went to RiteAId or CVS or something and bought Neutrogena's 3-step treatment and that has been working pretty well also.

If you have health insurance I recommend going to a dermatologist (I'm no teenager) but was continueing to have acne. I now have the clearest skin I've ever had. I take a low dose of ammoxicillian, and use 3 creams (retinA, something else, prescription Benzol Peroxide). It doesn't cost more than when I used to buy all the over the counterstuff and, for me at least, works so much better.

i never had zits ever. my sister and my brother were both on acutane - so i was like the golden child of my family for a clear face haha. well when i was 16 i started birth control and within the last couple years i have gotten acne. which birth control is supposed to get rid of! well i stopped birth control (2 aunts and both grandma's have had breast cancer, one of them being specifically from taking estrogen) and within a month all my zits were gone! I have one zit! are you on anything like that?

It doesn't necessarily go away after teen years either. I'm 57 and have 3 zits I've been picking at for a week now, making worse, LOL. And I'm through menopause! You'd think whatever would calm itself down but doesn't. Sigh.

I never had much acne as a teen/young adult, no so that I agonized over it (since I had worse things happening :-)

I have been on antibiotics for about 10 years for acne (I am in my 40s) and they really help! I tried topical antibiotics before that but they were not effective. I was recently on birth control pills for about 6 months and did not need antibiotics during this time. But I just went off of them and my oily skin and acne are back full force. acne is a pain in my toosh I recommend going to a dermatologist. My PCPs always wanted to mess around and give me medicine that was not strong enough for my acne. The dermatologists are not so cautious and will give you what it takes to get your skin under control.

its horrible for me cuz its onr of my biggest issues. it kills my self esteem. if you look in our house there are no pics of me after the age of 7, and all the pics of me older, saved on the comp have me edited out. apart from two. i hate HATE hate it.

I was recently on birth control pills for an ovary problem for about 5 months. During this time, my acne went away. No more of those painful, red "undergrounders" that scar and take forever to go away. Yes, I had antibiotics before, but I found birth control pills worked way better. Now I am off the birth control for the last 6 weeks and my acne and oily skin are back with a vengeance. I am using the antibiotics I have but they no longer seem effective.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to go back on birth control pills just for the sake of my skin? Do the benefits of no acne outweigh the negatives of taking daily hormones?

I guess I should ask my doctor....

Sunny - I take both antibiotics and birth control for my acne. Like you, I think the birth control is what does the trick. I think its worth it, but I've never been one to experience many med side-effects. Talk to your dr but there are several forms of BC that are specifically known for helping acne and I think have a lower dose of the hormones. As I mentioned in the other thread, I take Ortho Tri-Cyclin Low on the advise of both my dermotologist and family practice doc.

Thanks, Lemon. Maybe my acne will calm down as I get used to being off of hormones? It just seems way worse right now then it used to be before I went onto the BCPs. It has been embarrassing lately to go out into public. Here I am in my 40s with a face like a teenager's (well, except for the lack of wrinkles of course!).

The BCPs I was on were called Junel. I think they were fairly low dose and they did help my acne. I will look up the ones you take and see how they compare. I think the best person to ask is my dermatologist, then I'll cross check with my gyno.
