Hello everyone,
I have a question for you. Right now my depression is rough, and my Pdoc changed my meds.
I'm having memory issues, and they could be contributed to Topamax, which I took as a migraine preventative for years.
My question is this:
How do you control your depression and/or anxiety well enough to function on the job???

Thank you,

*wh*

I wish I had a good answer for you. The only thing I can say is what I do and that is to remember I absolutely need my job, more like paycheck and times are rough lately.

More people than open jobs so I am not likely to do anything at least at work that will ruin that as that will not help me. Now I say this with the caveat that it doesn't help me every day. I win more battles of the go to work, don't go to work morning argument in my head just to try to get me out of bed.

let your therapist/pdoc know so you can adjust meds if necessary. I needed a stronger dose for a while to get me right with the depression factor. And well like I said, it is a daily struggle for me.

Can you call in sick for a few days?

What are you struggling with at work? Is it the side effects or just unable to work, are you crying at work?

I started a new job and new meds on the same day. I actually threw up in the bathroom on my first day because the drug wasn't for me.

Now, on bad days. I try to drown out my thoughts and pain with music, and try to get my work done. I try to drown myself in my work to forget the pain.

Sometimes I'm listless and I just have to fake it.

Memory problems and depression are side effects of Topamax. Is there some OTHER drug that the doctor could put you on to control your Migraines? Some people call Topamax "Dopamax." I'm on it too for nerve damage, and I do have memory problems, but I also have brain damage, so I don't know what the memory problems are caused by. LOL Little of this, little of that I guess. LOL

But talk to your doc about another med for the Migraines. Maybe something else can help just as well. God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee

Try going for long walks when you can to stimulate your brain. Aim for 45 mins. Work it into your schedule. Also try to eat Eggs(choline) and fish like tuna(omegas, niacin) which have iron and b vitamins protein etc. Have a big water bottle refillable gladware with you at all times.

When my depression is really bad I have problems remembering so I write stuff down. I mean stuff I normally wouldn't have to write down: like "did step one" or whatever it is to help me keep my place in whatever the task is. I also encourage you to try to get enough sleep. Someone else pointed out exercise and eating for health. Good ideas.
