My first sponser and I have recently been through some stuff together. She really wants to move, and has applied for jobs closer to her family. She's only been here for a short time. So she's been struggeling with all that, and has admitted she can't be quite what I need right now. We had a big problem Thursday night but we talked about it and cleared the air and are now friends. She knows who I've picked as a new sponser and is happy about it and supports my decision. It worked out better then I thought it would so that's good.
My question is, those of you who have had to change sponsers, did you go back and do an overview of your previous steps? I'm on 8 now and when I talked about that with my new sponser, she said we'd start there. Shouldn't I go over at least 4 and 5 with her so she gets to know where I'm coming from? I don't know that we wont' do that, but I just wanted some experience on this. Thanks, Rayna

I've had to change sponsers as well because my original sponser moved away... The one I have now isn't my permanant sponser, he's just a fill in until we can find me a good female sponser. We didn't complete the steps over, but we did go over my step work I've already completed. He just briefly looked over my steps to get a better view of where I'm coming from and what's in store... Then he handed me my step Four and we'll be doing it together. I've already completed it, just a matter of him helping me with the things I didn't understand or need help with.

((((Hugs)))) guys I think changing sponsors is the same as if a T moved away. I wish the organization would change it's name to Addictions Anonymous because their basic steps help everyone with any type of addiction issue.

I think the 12 steps helps everyone, even people who aren't addicts... The new lady who's now over our Intensive Outpatient Program isn't an addict or alcoholic. But she applies the 12 Steps to her life every single day. I think anyone struggling or having a hard time can and should read the Big Book and will find comfort.
