its hard, really hard too. i try to get my mind on other things. sometimes i get angry at myself and cry. go ride my bike as fast as i can. fight with myself and keep saying no, no, no.
im hoping it gets easier fast. i wish i could wake up tomorrow and never have a craving again. let it all be in the past.

It DOES get better, though I'm not sure how fast... I got through the initial cravings the "easy" way, lol, I was in jail and prison long enough to detox completely.
First of all, try to avoid people, places and things that trigger a craving whenever possible. The less cravings you have, the less you have to suffer through. Next, when one hits out of the blue (and they will), try to think how it felt when you had run out, were coming down hard, had spent the rent or whatever, and just plain hated yourself. When you compare the two feelings, the craving is a lot easier to live with. Hang in there, it gets better. I have over 3 years clean this time and while getting clean didn't magically solve all my problems, it quit adding to them.

I have to remember that the craving is just a craving and I can live through it. I find it helps if I play the tape through to the end and remember how bad it was the last time I got drunk - don't want to go there again.
I also take a drug, naltrexone (Revia) which really cuts down on cravings for alcohol. Acamprosate is another drug that's supposed to be good for reducing alcohol cravings but I haven't tried it, because it just got licenced for sale in Canada. --splitimage |

This question is pretty dependent on the individual, I think. I've done crazy %#@&#! to avoid using. Once I even chewed on a dog's rawhide bone, just to cope with the tension. I've used hot showers, calls to friends, video games, food, masturbation, writing, and anything else that's popped into my head. None of it solves the problem, but it gets me through the moments and every moment without using is a victory (especially during cravings).
Good luck to you and all my recovering friends here on PC. Cyran0

Chocolate helps, and anything with sugar.
