hi Guys.
Whoever have read my previous posts and introduction para, knows how emotional kind of a guy I am. I left that love affair I had, because it was consuming me alot. I was very positive and not sad at all, completely focused at work. Buzzfeed is a very interesting website and they offer quality fun stuff which I really enjoy when I am free at office. Some days ago I came across this post of them, http://www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyr...ood#.jeBggJEZZ (DoNOT VISIT IF YOU HAVE SLIGHT SIGNS OF OCD) Some people mentioned OCD in comments that I had no idea what was it about..but this post literally gave me headache. When I woke up in the morning next day all I could think was these food fotos and strange urges that gave me burping headache and nausea. My eyes were heavy and I thought it was because of the Grey's Anatomy episodes I have been watching in a row for hours. Opticians changed my number. I was not satisfied and visited another. He changed my number again. SUCKS that both of them gave me proscription that varied with whole +1 figure. Anyhow with my new glasses, I thought now everything will be alright. Eyes pain went away but my head was still playing funny with me. Though these strange urges and obsessions of organizing things and doing strange stuff was always there but after that Buzzfeed post I felt horrible. It's been more than 15 days now and my mind is exploding lava. I feel my breath short and heart race goes fast as a running horse. I am not home and at work in another country where medical is so damn expensive. It's affecting me and my work efficiency is also going down. I have no idea what to do. DO you guys know any specialist/psychiatrist I could get help from by some online sessions? Pleas help me!!!

I wish I knew where to look for online, certified therapists.
In the meantime do you have any grounding/coping skills that you can try? |

When you can, try letting your body go limp (works best in bed or a big chair). The tension should drain away from your body. Try playing songs in your mind, to take your mind off your racing thoughts. I wish I had better advice. Good luck.

Have you tried questioning why you are having these thoughts? I don't have any OCD coping skills, as I only suffered from the symptoms for a few weeks, but I do have anxiety coping techniques that have improved my life.

I listen to songs for at least two hours a day , just to make myself feel better. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have been a patient of anxiety since a long time now. And No I have no idea how, when and why it started. I try to empty the recycle bin of my mind several times a day. It was for a short period of time and then I am all the same. Now I am seriously worried because it's badly effecting my work and I am not getting help from anywhere. Could you please suggest some tablets/pills for me that I can use to pass two months till I go my country and get professional help.
Thank You everyone for your help. I am a very hardworking guy and with this ill condition of mind, I have achieved alot. Now is the time I feel like failing. I am young and have barely see my dreams come true. I will not like to live a sick and desperate life.

Certain SSRIs, such as Prozac, and certain SNRIs, such as Paxil, can be used in treatment of OCD. Benzodiazepines might help, too, but benzos are at risk for abuse. I don't know if these are available in the country that you are in or not. As far as I see, cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy are the best treatmemt options for OCD.

My bad, Paxil is an SSRI, too. I'm not really sure about the medicines and how effective they are. (I apologize for the double post.)

You probably won't be able to get SSRIs without a Dr's prescription. OCD is an anxiety spectrum disorder though so I can tell you that St. John's Wort has reduced anxiety for me, and it has some science to back it up. You can also try some guided meditation on YOUTUBE.

Thank you everyone for suggestions. It really puts me in good mood.
I am still in great trouble. YouTube is helping me alot. there are many relaxing sounds available there that actually makes you feel better. Especially nature sounds like waves, rain and blowing wind etc are amazingly good. I have checked and nobody here is ready to give me these meds without proscription. I don't want to say about the crappy situation of doctors abilities here and I don't want to spoil my money on them. Just because of this case, I applied for leave to go to my country and get proper help. But for two months, I have to be strong and survive. Meanwhile, if any of you guys could suggest me some good literature related to OCD, I will be really thankful. I really wanna know myself why exactly a brain makes so much trouble. Thank You. You guys are really great.

Asqam, I was just recently diagnosed with OCD due to my obsessive thoughts, but I don't practice compulsions as often in other OCD cases. I know that there's a TV show called Obsessed that's centered around people conquering their anxiety disorders, particularly OCD. If you think it won't exacerbate your symptoms, I suggest you watch it.

There's a separate OCD board here in the forums--maybe try there for people with more experience with it?
One method of dealing with it that should be done with a therapist trained in the technique is exposure therapy, where you're gradually exposed more and more to what you are afraid of. It doesn't seem like something you should try on your own, though. |
